Galaxy S2 Updated to Android 2.3.4, ROM KI4.

Don't seem to be much of a change.

The standard 2.3.4 benefits over 2.3.3 on the Google side has been.

1. Security and big fixes, including a big hole involving Wifi.

2. Google Talk now has video.

A few visual changes for Touchwiz

1. There is now a battery charge indicator on the lockscreen when you are charging.

2. The Samsung power widget has been revised.

3. I think the phone now uses a slightly denser font than before that helps visibility.

No change on:

1. Benchmarks

Perception:

1. Feels slightly more responsive on the screen.

2. Rock solid as ever before.

3. I think the battery life may have improved but I can't get scientific on that due to my heavy use of battery draining apps like Google+.

My sim-free uk (from Phones4U) got upgraded to to 2.3.4 KI4 directly from 2.3.3 yesterday...

Only change I can see is the pattern-unlock uses different graphics and the video player has a 'trim' option on the menu.. Should notice any battery improvement over the next few days...

I've always had a little indicator telling me that the charge percentage on the pattern unlock screen. I've only noticed two visual changes:

1) Font for texts is thicker and easier to read.
2) Pattern unlock graphics are slightly different.

Not sure about battery life but I do know that after being fully charged post-update, it was down to 55% after 4 hours of very minimal usage and the battery usage stats showed 89% of battery was used by "Android OS".

EDIT: Just tested it today, it's been sitting on my desk doing absolutely nothing for 3 hours and it's dropped from 100% to 80%. :(

[hi all, my 1st post here, could be misplaced wrong forum.. hope not]

Just to say that one definite disappointment for me is the failure of Mini Paper widget. I used some of the generous 7-screen real estate to put on reminders, shopping lists and reference stuff - all usefully instantly visible.. but after re-boot into 2.3.4, they were all blanked out and unopenable  I tried adding new ones and starting again, but no deal :(

A less definite disappointment - but much more important - is that the system doesn't seem buttery smooth anymore, there's a jerky, frictiony thing going on....

Any thoughts ?
Mini Paper replacements?

Did you guys update via Kies as I have used 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 both KI3 with no problems Inc mini paper it works fine there must be a bug or Stability issuses in KI4

Kies asked to update beforehand, so it's version.. 2.0.3.11082_152 now.

Meanwhile, searching around, I read this: "Since there is a cache memory of the previous firmware gets stored in the device, you will have to clear the same and which can be done by performing the full reset by dialing the short code *2767*3855# and then you will see that all the cache is cleared successfully." so I got it in my head to dial that .... and lost everything (not on microSD) all settings, numbers, notes, SMS, photos, many apps... dispiriting ..

But now it all runs smoother, Mini-paper works, photos were all backed up and I got back phone numbers, notes, SMS from a not too distant back-up through Kies - it took a bit long for just scraps of text, I thought, and finally said it had failed, but I could see it hadn't.... :)

So maybe I did the right thing in flushing it out ?? but the wrong thing in not backing up immediately beforehand...

Since the Kies update i couldn't find the "install driver" option from the menu, but running the troubleshooter actually reinstalls the drivers too. This should fix the problem for you.

My Phone says
Android Ver : 2.3.4
Base-band : I9100UHKG4
Kernel : 2.6.35.7
Build No : GINGERBREAD.UHKG7

IS THIS THE LATEST?
Cos when I search for updates, it says mine is up to date :S

Hi there sorry I'm a newbie here but was hoping for a bit of advice if I could get some. I currently own a galaxy s II, I went to update it to 2.3.5 today, but it won't update, I checked over a few forums and spoke to my mate who has a galaxy s II and his updated to 2.3.5 with no issue's, I read my kernal number to be kI4 whilst his is on KI3, I'm a little baffled as to why they have different kernal code's, will mine be updated to 2.3.5 or not?
