Root Updating Issues

Alright well I usually don't post these questions cause I can figure most of the stuff out but I'm not sure what happened.

I was following steps 1-9 in the Steel Droid thread so I could update to .890 and something went wrong with the RDS. I kept getting an issue that says that it returned a file size that wasn't expected...

Now my phone is stuck in the flashboot part and when I try a normal boot it says "Invalid CG Version"

SO I assume that this is a bricked phone now? I saw a thread to do the unbirck but the SBF file link is broken now. Anyone have a suggestion? Also when i perform the unbrick do I loose all my data like pictures and contacts(can get from google)? I also have a backup from a month or so ago.

I did the following to unbrick my phone:
*****NOT MY GUIDE I GOT IT FROM HERE*****
[ROM] [RELEASE] Steel Droid 3: 2.0 Gingerbread - 10-5-2011 (Steps 1-9)
(Sorry For posting a link to another forum, just wanna give credit where credit is due!)

1: Download the 5.6.890 SBF file from here:
Download Droid SBF 890 zip

2: Download RSDLite 5.5 HERE
Download RSDLite5 rar

3: Extract the contents of the SBF file to a folder on your computer

4: Install RSDLite

5: Boot the Droid 3 into bootloader by holding both Vol+ & Vol- at the same time when powering the phone on

6: Select "AP Fastboot" and press Vol+ to select it

7: Select the XML from the extracted SBF file in RSDLite

8: Connect the phone, and when it says "Connected", hit "Start"

9: Wait for the phone to finish flashing, and booting (it will reboot a couple times, leave it alone, its supposed to!)

This will give you a working phone that is 100% usable. The only downside is I believe it will take you off Motorola's update path, but it is the newest update so you will be all set for a while. And it's much better than a brick. Hope this helps!

EDIT: I did not read your post carefully enough and I believe this is exactly what you did... You should try re-downloading the sbf and make sure you have the right version of RSD lite
TRY THIS SBF LINK! http://www.necrotania.com/Download/swu.zip

Yea the Steps 1-9 is what got me into this trouble haha. Im trying the SBF you posted last but now my phone keeps saying the battery is too low so Im hoping its charging while sitting in the black screen. If this doesn't work its off to my friend at Verizon who can hopefully fix it.

I just had to SBF last night. Plug it into a wall outlet and come back in half an hour. Then...put the folder containing the .xml file DIRECTLY on C: Finally, start up RSD and connect the phone. It never showed that mine was connected because it was not in PC mode before I bricked it (from what I read online), but I went ahead and SBF'd it anyways and now it's all good!

Ya i had that problem of low battery to... It does not charge unless the software is working! My brother has the same phone so i was able to use his phone to charge my battery, so you either need to buy an external charger or find another droid 3!

Just got my replacement from Verizon.

bryan847 or anyone else,

How do I get a backup the device, like this?
I change a libaudio.so, but not change de permission to 644, and my device not boot up. And when I connect with adb I cannot root access.
But my device is the xt860, so this firmware not work on it.
A friend has a same model (xt860), but do not know how to back up his.
RSD Lite only recovery file to phone, not the phone to file.

Thank you.

Okay I am kind of confused by your question. If you are asking how to backup your phone then you should make a nandroid backup by rooting your phone and then installing ClockworkMod Recovery. You can do this using RomManager.

Hello bryan847,
First, thanks for the reply.

What I need is some way to make a copy of the ROM the same way as this: http://www.necrotania.com/Download/swu.zip, so that it can be used to restore another cell.
This file does not fit on my phone, it is my xt860 - GSM, not xt862 - CDMA, but I have a friend who has one cell equal: xt860.

I believe that link you gave me is more than just a ROM. That is an entire android sbf, designed to unbrick a droid 3. Copying that is unnecesary. It will already work for any XT862 phone. A SBF casn be used on any phone of the correct make and model. So you just have to find an SBF made for the XT860. And you are all set to go.
