Your Phone and Sprints LTE surprise

hypothetically speaking, Lets say in 2012 you sign a 2 year contract on a new phone with wimax 4g. Once Sprint switches over to LTE in late 2012 or 2013 will that phones hardware work?
Bet not.
Now my question is, Will Sprint let you upgrade for free or let you out of you contract all together because you own a worthless phone? LOL

I like Sprint and my Nexus S 4G but I feel myself gravitating towards uh well dang I hate to say it, AT&T.

Don't do anything drastic! ;) I imagine with a huge network change like this in the works, Sprint will allow for some wiggle room when the times comes. I'm sure they are in planning meetings already to figure out how to handle situations as they pop up in 2012.

Sprint will continue to support the wimax network. They're not going to just make an instant switch and leave any wimax 4g devices rendered 'useless'.

I never suggested that they would just abandon wimax but once the lte is up and running they will eventually start phasing out wimax. I can't find the article but it was stated that will happen. As for me and others who contracts are almost up I was just saying it's something to think about before signing up for 2 more years.

yeah, they are "committed" to wimax for the next 2 years. I bet when they throw the switch you will be left out in the cold.

FYI: Sprint will stop selling Wimax devices at the end 2011. It does not say anything about Sprint not supporting the Wimax devices and yes this switch has been in the works for a long time even clearwire was aware of it and is trying to get money to make the switch to LTE but lightsquared has more money and is just waiting for the OK from the FCC to turn the switch. That's the end of 2012 on the phones and other equipment.

Lightsquared can't get past FCC for several reasons like GPS interference and is in lititgation. I don't see them going anywhere for some time.http://www.nextgov.com/nextgov/ng_20111004_4066.php

As for Sprint.
Sprint bypassed Clearwire even though it owns a majority of the company.

HA HA made you look
I will admit your story was much better then the story I was reading but it does look like it will get solved. And lightsquard will get past FCC. Sprint can careless about clearwire if they did then they would invest more money in them Right????? As for devices you are right my mistake it is 2012. That's all for me.

Sorry. I never came in here with the intention of creating an argument or debate.
I just wanted more clarification on the whole thing. Sprint has had my loyalty but I'm starting to question theirs. If they can do that to ClearWire what does it say about how they will treat us. I can honestly say the days of UNLIMITED DATA will come to an end when they switch and I will blame the addition of the iPhone for that.
I can say they've already screwed me when it was time for my upgrade and now I'm having second thoughts of staying.
I'm not saying ATT is better but they've already started to adapt their equipment to LTE and nobody has complained.
I know for now I'm staying where I'm at but all these promises they make and then don't hold up their end. If ya know what I mean.

Well I'm going to stick with Sprint as well for now. Also my company has over 400 lines of service with them that I manage and I get a nice discount :) I also get to see the (Sprint Vision road map) So I have a pretty good idea where things are going and the use of the 800Mghz spectrum(that was IDEN) will be a major deal for Sprint. I was with Verizon for over 10 years and since Sprint was the first with 4G and the discount was enough to make me switch.

PS
No argument from me just good healthy debate

Hell, they're already forcing me to pay for 4g that I have no access to (because it doesn't exist here). Why should this be any different?
