So will the Nexus Prime processor actually be an Exynos?

So the main sticky states that the processor will be a TI OMAP4460 and *NOT* an Exynos...found this article here that claims otherwise and is a very interesting article indeed...
Samsung Nexus Prime pops up at a retailer's web page in Singapore

But with that being said, I didn't realize what a big deal people are making the two different processors out to be. Can someone tell me why people won't even consider getting the Nexus Prime if it doesn't have an Exynos? Is it really that good? (note: I am and old noob)

My reason for not getting a Nexus Prime if it only has a TI OMAP 4460 is based mainly on the GPU and the size of the transistors in the CPU and GPU. The OMAP is 45nm while the Exynos 4212 is 32nm, which samsung and logic both claim offer significant power savings, heat reduction, etc. Furthermore the OMAP 4460 rumored to be in the phone has a Power VR SGX540 clocked at 384mhz. I can't find any data on the clock speed of the original galaxy S, but it had that exact same GPU over a year ago, and I don't want to settle for hardware that is over a year old. In other words, Exynos means better power efficiency and more power overall with newer hardware. If samsung put a different lower end/older Exynos SoC in there then I would be indifferent to it and the omap 4460. Also if they put in a 4470 I might consider that to be somewhat acceptable as well.

i'm going to say its a TI. Personally i'm fine with that. I've never owned a Sammy/Exynos phone so i wouldn't know if i was missing any extra benefits.

However having owned a DX i like the performance of the TI processors/gpu. For me this is not something that will sway my decision one way or the other.

I agree with the last 2 posts...lol.

Yea....32nm would be better than 45nm like ben7337 said. Yea the PowerVR 540 is a year old but it will be clocked a lil higher so it will perform a lil better than what came out last year.

And I gotta agree with trophy. After using the Droid X, getting a phone with a 4430 or 4460 should be fine. IMO ever since last year its been Motorola and Samsung neck in neck for the best internal hardware, with Samsung always seeming to have the edge.

IIRC the Power VR SGX540 in the original Galaxy S was clocked at 200mhz; the Prime would nearly double that if it's clocking in at 384.

As i've stressed multiple times with no avail. Fast processors are fast processors. If you want to gripe about a better, faster processor fine. But since you're using a phone I highly doubt jumping from a 25-40% increase of a TI or Exynos or whatever is, is not going to be noticeable to the eye. Unless you're sitting cutting video on your phone.

With that being said, cutting the nm down from 4x to 3x is going to save the battery on a phone when its in use, much? No.

So if you want to have an extra hour maybe two then just wait for the next best technology.

If you dont mind charging your phone at 8pm instead of 10. Get the prime.

Well, as the top commenter on the poll post stated, I don't care if the processor is a friggin Dorito, I'm getting it.
I'm interested in tech and a geek at heart, but I'm by no means a technophile. I'm pretty sure that whatever I get is going to be better than the OG Droid I have now...awesome though it is...and will be more than capable of doing what I want/need it to do. But nevertheless, I obviously want to get the best phone possible. I think this one is it.
The processor is of little consequence to me...I have faith that being a google experience phone free of bloatware, this will be the phone I've been waiting for.
And btw...slightly off topic (it's my thread, I'm allowed)...I haven't seen anywhere if this thing is LTE/4G or not, and has anyone seen or heard anything more about an LED indicator?

Faster is always better, it uses less power when idle too as a result, results in longer standby life. Also my droid 2 global can't even play 480p video smoothly with any video player. Even a super fast sgx 540 isn't something I would trust to handle 720p and people keep talking about 1080p playback on phones. I highly doubt that is even possible without videos that are specially encoded within specific settings, but the more power, the closer it comes to reality the better. I look forward to a day when all I need is my phone, and a power cable and hdmi cable to play a video on a friend's tv and not have to lug a 5-7lb laptop over in a bag with a charger and hdmi cable.

Could I please get a link to that? I only ask because I couldn't find it earlier and I'm curious of the source.

it is 4G and there is a thread in the forum specifically about the notification light.

So right now the general consensus on main thread seems to be OMAP 4460 in Nexus Prime. I just wonder how Steven's source figured it out? Not that I'm unhappy with OMAP 4460, but I wonder if he teared down the phone to see inside or used some kind of app. I know clock speed can be checked but is there any app telling CPU/GPU type?

I doubt he/she went to all that trouble. Steven said the source wasn't a beta tester. I'm sure he/she was just told what CPU it had.

I posted this in the general rumors thread but thought it might be helpful for anyone straddling the fence. A nice little test of the 4430; the 4460 will be *much* faster:

AnandTech - LG Optimus 3D Preliminary Performance - OMAP4 Tested

Personally, my thoughts are... sure it's not the latest cutting edge technology, but it is quite nearly the best available at this moment and I don't see me asking the phone to do anything that will be able to challenge this setup.

The simple fact that we'll be able to score a Nexus device on Verizon (finally) plus HD display and that gorgeous form factor... well, let's just say I'm 99% sold.

I see. That was my guess too. I wonder then where GSM Arena and 4chan got Exynos info from? So I guess there is still tiny chance to see Exynos in Prime unless Steven's source is Google or Samsung insider in the know.

Having a little real world comparison may help.

Originally I was SUPER excited when I heard about the SGS2 and was plotting that as my next phone. Sadly it isn't coming to VZ (although I could go with another carrier I get a significantly better discount through them and I want to continue that) and shortly after being heartbroken I heard rumors of the Prime.

Now that I've had a chance to see the SGS2 in person and be blown away by how well it runs through any command given to it I'd like to know what some of you would suspect the difference in feel would be with the 1.2 Exynos vs. the 1.5 4460?

All things being equal (and we all know they never are) if the 4460 1.5ghz can perform as well as the Exynos 1.2ghz then I'd be a happy boy.

I would think so. Even 1Ghz OMAP4430 in LG Thrill seems to fare fairly well against SGSII on AT&T. But Bionic with the same OMAP 4430 didn't feel as snappy as Thrill. I think that's mostly due to Blur UI bogging down memory. So 1.5Ghz OMAP 4460 with stock ICS would be blast for sure. ICS is also said to provide better multi-core support, GPU based UI acceleration.

WTH?!!!

how did you hide this thread from me all this time?!

if somebody is really into the CPU/GPU of the NP [exynos 4212 or OMAP 4470]... that's definitely ME!

im the one keeping the 71% of processor talk in the official NP-Thread :D
