Help Cisco E4200 & Bionic

For some reason, I am unable to use my WiFi Cisco E4200 with my Bionic. The Bionic works just fine with other WiFi Routers. Is there a list of incompatible WiFi's with the Bionic? For those of you who are also using the E4200, what are your setting? I have tried various ones but now I'm just leaving it alone (because it works great with my laptop).

I may be stating the obvious here, but if you have a mac filter on the router, be sure to add the mac of your bionic to it. Also, do you broadcast your SSID? If not, make sure it's added to your wifi settings on your phone. Again, probably stuff you already know, but these are things that are sometimes overlooked.

I setup a E4200 at a client's site and was able to use my bionic with it.

Setup was WPA2 personal encryption, SSID broadcast disabled, 802.11b/g/n mix mode

I have a similar Cisco router and it works with the bionic. The bionic uses the 2.4 band not the 5.0 band, so make sure the router is setup for b/g/n on the 2.4 band for best results. Even at close range, the best 802.11n rate I get id 65Mbps, nowhere near the expected n rate. YMMV

I LOVE this site. You guys are the GREATEST! Thanks for the responses. I'm away from home now but I am using WPA2 personal encryption, SSID broadcast enabled, 802.11b/g/n mix mod. I have tried everything from disabling 5.0 band and only trying 2.4. That did not work so I reset the Wifi and that didn't work either. I even upgraded the firmware to the latest and that STILL didn't work. I am not using any self enabled MAC filters. I have absolutely no problems using my Dell laptop on the Wifi.

Any other suggestions? I forgot to previously mention that when I try to log on using my Bionic, in the upper left, I see "connecting, disconnect". I am sure that I am using the correct password but I am wondering if the Bionic doesn't like certain styles of passwords?

I have a 3000 and a 3200. The 3200 is more finicky and often wont auth. If you are using an app like locale or y5, this will cause you more trouble as they toggle the wifi which causes the bionic some sort of confusion. The x didn't have that problem but instead was not truly n compatible.

we have a 4200 here that we have been using for 2 months or so.

I setup the 5 GHZ to be N only and the 2.4 to mixed. We have two different SIDS. I force the droids to connect to the 2.4 SID. It works. You might want to look at what channels you are using (the auto channel setting works fairly well)
we use 40 only with auto channel for N.

Thankls. I am using AUTO channel settings. I guess I never thought about using different SSID's for 5 and 2.4 settings. I'll give that a shot when I get home.

I would like to blame the Bionic but I can't because it connects with different WiFi's. I would also like to blame my router but it works with my laptop. There is just some sort of conflict between the Bionic and my E4200 and for the life of me...I can't figure it out:mad:

If you live in a highly saturated environment you may need to manually set the channel to not conflict with your neighbors; we have a variety of wireless devices we can connect to in our house.

I can tell you that the bionic works fine and I did a speediest this morning and it benchmarks over wifi as fast as my laptop.

I have the E4200 and the Bionic and no problems. The Bionic has worked since day one and connects ok.

Recently I did the latest firmware upgrade for the E4200 and following the guidelines from Cisco, I reset the router back to stock settings (which I hate doing). I was going to restore my settings from backup, but for the fun of it I restored from scratch. Still no problems with the Bionic.

Just curious if you did the same on the firmware upgrade, or if you kept what you had. If it's still not working for you, you may want to reset the E4200 to factory defaults and try again.

Good luck!

Eric

I finally made it home and...DING DING DING!!! We have a winner! THANK YOU Eric! I should have known that when ever something isn't working right...reset! I thought I had done this but it took three...count them folks...THREE resets before it would work. What made me reset so many times was that after each reset, something just wasn't working right...as if it "tried" to reset but some of the manual settings where still there. I finally followed the "if you are having problems with a rest...." instructions from Cisco and that did the trick. I had to not only unplug the power, but also the TV cable and disconnect the battery in the modem. That did the trick. Now my Bionic and E4200 are all working together. I had also updated the firmware.

This is a GREAT site...thanks for the help folks!

Routers usually need a 30-30-30 reset. Hold for 30 secs. Unplug while holding another 30. Plug in while holding another 30.

The book answer was a couple of minutes. I went about 5 minutes due to having other things to do. It still took 3 resets but it finally took with the upgraded firmware.
