Talk to the Phone feature of Iphone4S

Hi guys,

I know my SGS2 already has a voice recognition feature but I wonder if I will be able eventually to use it to the extent that it's shown for the Iphone4S?

I imagine so, since if I'm not mistaken hardware for hardware the SGS2 is better so, only a matter of software upgrade?

i guess so. the SGS2 has vling voice commands software which is pretty good, and also google voice actions.. u can try em both, n see. im not sure wat Siri by Apple does, ive not really been into the iphone 4S but from wat i hear, its somethign really good..but then again, if its just about sending a text msg via voice, or searchign for directions etc, android can do it too.. for a while.. i dont know, maybe the android software has to do a bit of catching up. but yeah, surely its all software, and all the hardware necessary is a mic? :D

Sirie has stuff like 'when did MJ die?' and it will bring up the internet with info... or 'do i need an umbrella today?' and it will load the weather... stupid stuff no one will ever use

ah i see, more of a gimmick . yeah i watched a video demo of it.. u can kinda talk to it like talking to a person, and it talks back. i agree that no one will really use it that much.. and the most commonly used voice commands are covered in google voice actions :D and vlingo, for SGS2 users

Has anyone thats slating siri actually used it or are you basing opinions on youtube videos? I used it extensively yesterday and it is brilliant, and its only going to get better. It is genuinely like talking to a person most of the time, ask it as serious question and youll get a serious answer or action. But you can also joke with it, mock it and test it and it will play along. Galaxys voice control isnt anywhere near it, but remember Apple bought a company purely for this software, whereas ( i assume) Samsungs is in house built.

At the end of the day though most people will be too embarrassed to use it in public and thats the real draw back with voice tech

Yea I tried it out yesterday on my girlfriends 4S and I gotta say... It gives the phone a character. Suddenly the iphone is something you can have a laugh and joke with, though I did catch it out a few times.

I'd say siri is the thing that will help sell the 4S.

It'd be nice for Google to come up with something similar....

Unfortunately, the Siri voice recognition is not good with regional accents and is also not fully functional outside of the United States at the moment and users are reporting numerous problems with this beta feature. See here:-

Since the iPhone 4S looks identical to the iPhone 4, I suppose the only way that new owners can convey that they have the, "latest and greatest" iPhone, will be to walk around talking to it. Bless! :D

I think people will get bored of if fast, especially if you have a strong accent. All the live demos of it so far just use bog standard questions and no one with strong accents.

Thanks ironass that link was a good laugh. One guy upgraded his and his kids 4 just for siri and Ursa not working. I don't care if your a fanboy or not you should always try before you buy.

I love that there is now a Sirigate. It looks like since apple took control of siri they are slowly strangling it.

I believe that Apple launched a phone that was basically, after 16 months, not very different to the previous one and needed a killer feature to encourage people to upgrade and use as an advertising hook.

Siri was the feature they chose since a lot of phones are now dual core and have at least 8MP camera's.

Apple themselves admit that Siri is still only a beta application and therefore was possibly not the best choice to use as their, "killer" feature.

Having said that, they were rather stuck for anything else to use that might influence the non fanbois. :)

Well are going go be annoying a lot of upgraders and loosing them. A fool and their money are easily parted as I said try before you buy now if I had considered the 4s because of siri I would of atleast had the sense to test it first. Before I got my best ever phone the S2 I spent a good few hrs comparing it hands on with the Experia Arc.

I think I have my afternoon sorted hehe of to local Apple to play dumb n consider the 4s and try siri to see how bad it really is lol I have a strong accent may have to just say hmm not really worth the money see you am off to get a better Android lol

Funny you say that cause I researched the SGS2 with the Arc as well before buying. I quickly came to the conclusion that the S2 was the superior out of the two.

I tried Siri yesterday. I asked... 'Who is the President of the United States of America?', and guess what it didn't give me an answer remotely linked to the question. In fact the owner tried with the same question, twice, with no luck, and her sister tried too, but it didn't work.

It looks so great in those ad's.......

;)

Was the phone white? Maybe Siri is a little racist and fails to acknowledge a black president!? j/k

I've been working away from home and in this office there are a lot of iPhones. So me with my SGS2 was a little out of place, but I showed them some of the software I have on my and the speed of it. One guy goes straight to youtube to show videos of the 4S loading webpages a little faster. LOL Reminded them I've had my phone since June. I noticed the Wifi indicator on the 4S in the video, but when I went to look for the icon on the SGS2 the guy closed the window. I need to find that video again and check it, quiet sure they would have it on WiFi too, but just want to see it.

Here's the video..... from 4:38 onwards...

But the iPhone just doesn't do flash at all whereas the Sammy was loading up flash as well. Pretty much an unfair test.

Still Siri I guess is one of those things you use to impress your mates with.
