Root Pls Help: Link2sd not working....cont'd... dev email...

OK, originally I thought this was just a problem with one app...

I downloaded the update to AdFree tonight and it won't let me link it with Link2sd...keep getting a failure notice.

Then, an hour later, i downloaded a new app, History Eraser, and Link2sd gave me another failure notice.

Does anyone have any insight to this? I think I updated Link2sd a day ago...though maybe not...i updated a bunch of apps... Is Link2sd buggy possibly? I also deleted some bloatware yesterday (where, twidroid and scavenger). can't remember what else...i'm worried i've broken Link2sd and don't know what to do...

TIA

Update:

here's the failure notice i'm getting with history eraser:
create_link.mobi.infolife.eraser: cannot create /data/sdext2/dalvik-cache/data@app@mobi.infolife.eraser-1.apk@classes.dex: read-only file system

and for AdFree:
rm failed for /data/sdext2/dalvik-cache/data@app@com.bigtincan.android.adfree-2.apk@classes.dex, Read-only file system

I have no idea what any of that means...maybe someone here does and can tell me what the problem might be? I am not on a custom ROM, only rooted. I did download Super Tool Box and clean cache and also did a nandroid yesterday. this problem was only noticed tonight when i downloaded new apps from market.

thanks!

Update...my last post at bottom of this thread gives details of email reply from dev...i need help with this, please... TIA!

If you just restored a backup, you may rerun the mount script. Open link2dd, hit menu, then more, then recreate mount script. See if that helps.

No, I haven't restored a backup ever....should I still do the mount script thing?

Mine did pretty much the same exact thing yesterday.all of a sudden, everthiing failed, said /data/sdext2 (or whatever its called) was busy. Couldn't recreate mount scripts, nothing.all my apps that were linked worked great,no problem, but according to links2sd,I didn't have a partition. Then a couple of linked apps disappeared completely. I did a full wipe and am trying darktremors a2sd this time around. Thus far,I don't recommended it.having issues and will probably go back to links eventually. Meh.

You can check with your superuser app to make sure links2sd has root privilege, then recreate the mount script. It can't hurt and just might do the trick.

that doesn't sound good...:(

did you do an update for link2sd recently? i seem to think i did, but that could be my flu brain acting wonky. LOL

how did you know link2sd said you had no partition? my linked apps are working fine, but no new apps will link...

Yes, Link2sd is listed in superuser's list ... i'll try the mount script.

any idea from reading the error messages what could be wrong? how do i email the link2sd developer?

TIA

Edit: I tried mount script recreate and it says "Mount script error...Mount script cannot be created. failed."

Now what? Do I need to start all over? Do I need to restore a backup from a week ago? I dont even know how to do that. Advice please?

I can't remember if Ilink2sd updated shortly before...I want to say maybe yes. After trying all the link2sd options under the 'more' menu,I think it finally just told me the partition didn't exist.I can't remember honestly.it was just a big headache, and confusing since I hadn't done anything differently,it just started failing. Error 22 was the one I got

mine is saying it cannot create mount script...don't know what that means, but i have a feeling it isn't good. i wonder if i can uninstall a link2sd update?

edit...on the market the link2sd app shows a date of oct. 8, which i am thinking was the update...so i would have updated it if one was available...so maybe there's a problem with the app now?

Yeah,I kind of gave up on it,lol. Backup your apps with TB,do a full wipe and reflash your rom. Reinstall TB and link2sd. Set up link2sd to actomatically link apps on install, then reinstall the rest of your apps thru TB. link2sd should link them as you install.check out Macfetts Links2sd and you tutorial too

well, i'm not on a custom rom...so, that probably doesn't work for me. i emailed the dev and we'll see what happens. thanks though! i need all the input i can get!! ;)

OK, this is the reply I got from the dev:

Hi,

If your 2nd partition becomes read-only, it may be a filesystem error.
On Linux (and Android) any fs error can trigger filesystem go
read-only (for protecting fs).

Try to reformat your second partition.

Can someone translate that to techno dummy speak for me and tell me how to reformat?

Will reformatting ruin my links?

TIA!

What recovery are you using? If your rooted I recommend taking the next step and getting on a custom rom such as my favorite backside.

whoops, sorry, I was thinking you were on Harmonia. My bad

also, +1 for you flashing a rom. I personally think Harmonia is best for beginners-stable and not overwhelming with new features. But, BACKside is pretty darn awesome :D

Well, I definitely appreciate the ROM advice and I really did want to pursue that...

But, can anyone help me with my faulty sd partition? i really don't know how to reformat and what the implications will be....

The reason for suggesting the rom was you would have to format your partition and reinstall your apps anyway. Also I asked about your recovery so I could explain the steps to format your partition which yes will erase your apps but if you back them up first it's easy to reinstall but you also would need to wipe all your data but if you sync first you sync again and all your system data like contacts will be restored and when you restore your backups made using titanium backup it will restore the data as well. You can also set to auto link in link2sd so when you restore it will link for you (mostly) this is an explanation of what you can do not a tutorial so if you want to do this I will write out step by step what to do.

Thanks for your help! I am on xionia recovery; i used the rooting w/o computer gingerbreak method.

somehow i did manage to get my sd card to work again (posted in another thread about the drama, LOL).

now i'm wondering if it's possible that SD Maid could have corrupted my partition?

i might be interested in flashing the harmonia rom if you wanted to give me step-by-step...i don't understand how to use my xionia recovery or anything like that.

TIA!

The creator of that rom has a very good tutorial and thread on that. As for the SD maid it is very likely. By rule of thumb avoid having two things that modify your card like that just stick with link until you have it under your belt and don't worry everyone has problems at the start.

[ROM] Harmonia 1.6.1c (Aphrodite+Picasticks) 21Sept11 - Android Forums

I'll post the steps you need to take before and after you flash the rom a little later when I get home.

go to the link I gave you and download the rom

back up all user apps with titanium backup.

reboot into recovery

select option backup/restore then backup then yes once completed push back to get to the main menu.

select the option wipe/format

select option install zip from SD

go to your download folder and find and select harmonia.zip(name will be slightly different)

select yes

wait until it says flashed successful (menu options will reapear)

push the back button

select reboot

open the market and sign in

find and download titanium backup then find and download link2SD

run link2SD

select ext 3 (if error select fat32)

reboot(don't fast reboot it always causes problems for me)

run link2SD again

push your menu key then select settings then turn on auto link

picsay-1318964590.jpg

exit link2SD

run titanium backup

restore all your user apps

they should auto link but some might not

run link2SD push menu key

select filter then in phone

link whatever is there

push menu key select filter on SD

move anything there to phone

push menu key select filter on phone link everything you just moved to phone.

if you run out of space reboot just like in macfett tutorial and continue linking

now you should be running harmonia and all linked.

Wow, thanks so much for the very clear step-by-step instructions...you're speaking my language now, LOL. I appreciate that!

So, question regarding the step above...you say to select ext3 on link2sd...but my sd card partitions are currently fat32...does that matter? (i partitioned on my mac with disk utility and i don't know if i can do ext...) will i need to change my sd card in any way?

Thanks again! now that i see and understand how to flash that ROM, i will probably try it once my flu is completely gone...i think it's making my brain wonky and more prone to mistakes! LOL :p

It will change when you select format

OK, so will that in any way negatively affect my phone or sd card? do i need to have ext for the harmonia ROM to work? what about other ROMS or even going back to stock ROM?

thanks for your help!

ps...i uninstalled the SD maid and feel better about it...
