Help "Low on space" phone/application storage notification

I had that problem also. I cleared all my data and cache, from my apps and google search. Also, phone history and text messages. Have'nt had problems since.

There is a large thread on this stickied on to on the support subsection. I suggest you start by reading page 12, and then perhaps the last couple of pages. long story short it has to do with the application data folder becoming full. So clearing cache and data from applications should help resolve the problem temporally. You should also move you're apps from the sd card to the phone, and then back to the as card. That should move the library files to the sd card (that is an new feature implemented in the gingerbread update).

I stumbled upon the culprit that caused my memory low error! It was contacts2.db in /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts. I have about 50 contacts, and this file was 55MB. I deleted it, rebooted, and reloaded contacts from my backup and now contacts2.db is less than 1MB. Lots of room now!
Bo

wish i could get to that file without root....

Is this problem unique to the HTC Incredible? I've decided to get a new phone but want to make sure I am not buying a new phone with the same problem. I saw a post or two above about the Incredible being the only HTC phone with this issue, but do any other manufacturers have this issue? I was not impressed by the "new" iPhone yesterday so it looks like I will be sticking with Android. Was thinking about the Bionic.

The indicator disappeared a few weeks back after I cleared my contacts storage cache. It reappeared after the Adobe Flash Player update yesterday and I can't get it to go away. I've cleared all my cache, even deleted my Exchange account to see if that would make a difference. I have over 500 MB of free phone storage and the warning persists.

Older Android phones with 512Mb or less of internal memory all have this issue. So the Nexus One, Desire, the Moto Droid, the Hero etc all faced this problem.

If your phone has more than 8GB of internal memory, you should be fine.

My atrix has 16GB of internal memory with 2GB reserved for apps.

I have the same issue as Mitch. I can't seem to get rid of the warning since the Adobe Flash Player update last night.

Actually no Roze! :( it isn't that simple.

This issue is specific to the Incredible. It has to do with the data/data partition being only 150MB. This is completely different than actually being low on app space.

@at all Try uninstalling updates from adobe and see if that helps.

I know we've all had this problem and I'm on my 3rd replacement and tried a lot that everyone has tried with deleting EVERYTHING. Mine seem to be the weather bug app. I can't explain how or why, I got the low space message after I was checking the radar(which took forever to load) and It seemed like I would get the message after hitting the home button instead of quiting the app. Maybe because it wouldn't turn off the radar correctly (I think). I haven't had the message come up for about 2 months now and I haven't had to delete any e-mails,or texts at all.
I now use the my cast weather app. I feel it works much much smoother.
Hope maybe it will be a problem fixer for someone else.

Cool, thanks. Bionic, it is then. So long, DInc. It was fun, some of the time.

Uninstall the Flash update. Then also clear data and cache from the Facebook app (if you have it). That cleared mine....

I've been getting the "Low On Storage" error for 2 weeks and have moved every possible app over to my SD card and cleared my cache, but I'm still getting the error. What's exceptionally weird, is that I have over 6GB of phone storage remaining, 2.6GB of storage remaining on my SD card, and over 450MB of memory available.... what is going on here? I can't think of anything else to try...

I'm assuming your post got moved to the giant thread on this subject.... try reading page 12 on this thread, also maybe the first post..... long story short: have you tried clearing the 'data' from he apps?

Low on space (phone storage space is getting low) just came up on my phone today and I haven't added any more apps in weeks. I have 600MB free of phone memory, 4GB free on internal storage and 5GB free on SD card. I have 241MB of RAM free. I cleared all cache. What is going on with my phone? Need help!

I am rooted with GB 2.3.4 with new radio as well.

Could be an email app or similar. K9 mail was showing that it was storing 49MB of data even though I only had about 10 emails in my inbox. I did lots of things at the same time, so I'm not sure what fixed it in the end. Purged each folder, moved stuff to other folders, etc, got it down to less than 10MB and I haven't had the warning since then.

Here's the problem. Prior to the GB update, the lib files stayed in the internal storage, even if the app was moved to SD. This doesn't change automatically with the update to GB. So, you have to move the app back to phone, then back to SD to clear out those lib files. So, one by one, move an app back to phone, then back to SD. Once you've done this with all apps, you're in the clear.

Im so glad I found this. Worked perfect! Thank-you!

I have found that FLASH and FACEBOOK usually cause this issue for me...

When FLASH updates to FLASH 11, I get the low space... ALWAYS!

As for FACEBOOK... I just have gotten in the habit of clear cache and clearing data weekly.

As friend of mine had this issue caused by the HTC mail and Yahoo mail... Once he uninstalled yahoo and cleared cache and cleared data from the mail program it also cleared the issue up.

They have since stopped using the HTC mail and moved to K9 and the issue haven't come back.

Hey everyone I had this problem as well and found a way to clear it up easily.

For me it was SMS. Yes TXT messages. You know how it keeps track of messages between you and the other party as a thread? Well if you have a lot of those, they eat up a lot of protected space in the phone's storage.

Just delete some of your message threads and you will see this warning go away.

I had a couple of message threads with MMS (pictures) attached and when I deleted those threads the warning went away.

I'm glad to here you were able to resolve your low on space error this way. However, this won't work for everybody. Other people's issues are cause by other specific apps, like facebook, HTC mail, etc. Other people aren't really traced to any specific app, just a lot of small apps each eating small chucks of the limited /data/data space.

If you don't have any txt's you need to save, it certainly might help you. But don't expect it to be a universal fix.

Yeah. Well I have to say that I tried a lot of the other approaches and none of it helped. You put your finger on it though. It's the limited space in /data/data and the fact that you can't view or manage that mount point without rooting your phone.

I can understand that some users could screw things up if they went in to that mount point and started putzing around but to completely block access to it isn't good either. I would feel much better about this if they gave the experienced user access to adjust this. Say allow for more space on that mount point?

This problem was one of a few that was driving me crazy. Every time I cleared space, I deleted something I didn't want to delete. They don't make it easy to know what to delete when you are low on space. You have to take your chances.

I solved this, and the other problems, by switching to an iPhone. Couldn't be happier. HTC lost a customer forever.
