Epic 4g Touch vs Iphone 4s

I'm a Sprint employee and Epic 4G Touch ambassador. I've not had any call drop issues to date, having had my E4GT since 2 weeks before launch. I have read about this issue on this forum and one other forum; re: reported call drop issues. We are taking these reported issues to note and will be reporting them back to Samsung for review, and if validated fixed in the first MR release. No date yet for MR1 as we are still gathering feedback. If you have specific examples of signal dropout (by signal level not just "bars" of strength on top) send me a PM and I will pass the data along. Thanks.

Thanks for your concern! I sent you a PM.

It appears that the iPhone has already lost it's tech edge to the Epic Touch -- the ET has a better camera, faster browsing (not to mention Flash capability), thinner, lighter, and for many people, the better screen. And it turns out that Siri is not really that much better than Google Voice, which actually handles some things quicker.

iOS was in many respects their way of catching up to Android. I don't know when the iPhone 5 will be released, but it looks like the title of "Best Smartphone" will most likely be an Android device for most of 2012.

2 different networks and that's not even a US Galaxy. Wouldn't mind seeing the Sprint IPhone 4s against the ET4G

The euro SGS2 and the Epic Touch both have the same CPU, GPU, screen resolution and the test was conducted over wifi so the cellular radios are taken out of the equation. While there may be some slight differences they should be minimal.

Ah ok, I thought there were some differences.

I don't think the Epic Touch has Gorilla glass, I had a little scratch on the screen of mine within a week, my Evo screen is still perfect

I have heard in too many reviews that the GS2ET4G is Gorilla Glass to think that it is not. The Corning site might just not be updated.

For the fun of it, here is a drop "test" between the old Euro version Galaxy S2 and the iPhone 4S. Note that this test is ENTIRELY unscientific, and luck I am sure played a very important part for the winner. With that caveat, enjoy:

never had a lost call, missed text, or missed email..

if you never customize your phone, and don't mind being locked in to Apples functionality and restrictions, then get the iPhone

otherwise, this phone is the best one in the marketplace, without doubt..

It's the best device, certainly not the best phone, as that's the biggest problem with it. The radios are weak, almost all of them (Wifi, 3g, 4g, not sure about GPS). The battery life is not very good on top of that even without the LOS issues. Specs do not make the best phone.

I took mine back, but to see that the Nexus is not coming to sprint (anytime in the near future), and not enough of an upgrade to jump ship IMO. I will wait until Sprint/Samsung fix the radio issue and consider picking one up again. So likely NEVER!!!!!!!

I wonder why your battery life was not up to par with what you expected. After using the Epic 4G Touch for a month... I can say without a doubt that it has the best battery life of any Android phone I've ever used. In fact, the great battery life I've been getting is one of my favorite features of the phone. With my past 3 Android's the battery life with frustrate me all the time.. On the Epic 4G Touch... its been never been an issues. The battery life as surpassed all my expectations.
I agree that the new Nexus is not a good enough reason to jump ship. Other than the 720 screen resolution, nothing really seems to be a breakthrough.

I'd say the new nexus is worth jumping ship solely for ICS. No bloat, no ui. ICS did look impressive last night. The hardware is still equal to the top of the line android phones now, but with a higher res screen. But the real story is ICS.

Ah ok, I thought there were some differences.

The t-mobile version of the SGS2 is quite a bit different then the european version, it has a different chipset (it's needed to support T-mobiles 4G like network) but the sprint and AT&T versions are very similar to the european versions.

I expected it to be more like the international SGS II where people were getting 2 days out of them with moderate use. Or at least better than my EVO 3D which is was certainly not. Not a big difference, but the 3D is better. I hardly ever have to charge it during the day. I had to charge that Epic Touch almost every day to last given the exact same usage.

Plus the auto brightness keeps the phone on almost full dim. The lower the brightness, the grainier everything looks on the screen, I couldn't take that so I upped the brightness to slightly below half and the battery life was ever worse.

My battery life is outstanding. I even posted picks in another thread because it was so good. Yesterday I had 15% left after 14hours off charger with 3h31m screen on time. Shoot I took it off the charger at 8am yesterday, used the phones steadily all day and watched the ICS launch last night on it. So far the battery has been kick arse!!

Also the phone is super fast at everything it does. From swiping through menus to loading up games it just rocks! and the 5.0ghz wireless N is simply bad arse netting me the full 25m down and 4.5 meg up at work. Also streaming a MKV 1080p movie at 12gigs across my home wireless g network without a hiccup... simply amazing.

And (knock on wood) no LOS yet as I set the phone to sprint only and still hang on to a little signal in all the same places my photon did. The signal does always show lower on the bars, but things still go through like txt and phone calls. Hopefully they do resolve that issue though as it feels uneasy. My reason to coming to the Touch is due to the Photon cell radio locking up on my unit. The sad part is Moto was not acknowledging the issue and Sprint wanted 35 bucks to replace the phone. So I put another 75 into it and had them swap an upgrade from one of my other lines so I could sell back the Photon and get the Touch. And all that was against my "#neveragain" input after the Vibrant. Funny how that works....

GPS has been WAY better then my Vibrant and about the same as the Photon. Not much to say there other then it sees me in my driveway without issues and shows my in my living room sometime depending on the cloud cover.

My only peeve is the same at the Vibrant. When the speaker grill is covered the sound is totally muffled. On the Photon covering the grill did not result in a loss of sound. The speaker also seems weaker and lower in volume compared to the Photon and Evo 4G.

As for the display it is beautiful... BUT..... the Photon 4G was of higher res and I was really used to that and miss it greatly. Seems like a step backwards when it comes to screen space and clarity. But the Epic Touch screen is simply bright, beautiful, vibrant, and clear!

As for Gaming performance, it is on par with the Photon and Vibrant. I really am not seeing games truly push phones yet. The hardware is really far ahead of what the games are pushing today, and even the Photon really wasn't being pushed and here we are just months away from quad core CPU's being released.

So compared to the Vibrant, the Touch is WAY ahead in battery, screen, and speed. As for the Photon, about the same, but the resolution is a real letdown with the Touches screen size. Overall I am very happy and have yet had any issues with the Touch.

maybe thier was something wrong with the one you had. cause my GS2 has way better batt life than my evo3d and my old photon.

No, there was nothing wrong with it, several people have tried them side by side and have come to the same conclusion as I have. I had them literally next to each other for two weeks and can firmly say the Epic Touch does not have better battery life. At least not with my usage which is usually about 2.5 ours display on time (surfing, email, text), 1-1.5 hours talk time, and some music through the headphones. Most of my day is on Wifi though and the EVO 3D has a beast of a wifi that does not drain much battery. But even off wifi, I found the 3D to be better by about 3 hours or so.

All of the radios are also weak, the weakest of any of the Android phones in my house (EVO 3D, EVO, OG EPIC) which I think contributes to the poor battery life.

If Samsung fix the LOS issue and poor reception issue, I will buy another one, if not, oh well.

Yea.. there probably is a good chance that radio signal was an issue regarding your poor battery performance. Although I have radio signal issues, the battery still beats any other Android phone I've used, and most "professional" reviews and members of this very forum seem to agree. I agree with you in that the reception issues need to be addressed. Although I never get a complete loss of signal, no dropped calls.. I do notice a weaker signal on this phone than previous Sprint devices I've used in the same places in Phoenix (and occasional roaming for no apparent reason.. My EVO 4G NEVER had this problem) .... I contribute my slower data speeds to this issue, too--or maybe that just could have something to do with all the Network Vision upgrades going on now. Either way.. my battery is still, by far, the best I've seen on any Android phone and one of the many reasons I love this phone.
