switched from 3gs to sgs2

Greetings all, android newbie alert......

Having made the leap finally away from the iphone to the sgs2 i have to say it was the right decision. It ticks all my boxes....

I've noticed a couple of things that i wanted to run past people with android/galaxy experience just to set my mind at rest.

I've set the sgs2 up in a similar fashion to what i had with the iphone, ie 2 exchange based email accounts, a weather app and a london tube app. I've done some research, and tweaked the phone to save battery and 3g data usage, but i've noticed that it's using much more data allowance than the iphone did. On closer inspection it appears to be the the email application thats taking the lions share..... I'm wondering if the iphone and the sgs2 are massively different in some respect. I never used more than about 100 megs a month with the iphone but the galaxy is going to be a number of times that and i'm on a 500 meg tarrif.

Secondly, and this makes the massive email data use more odd, is that none of my emails come through in html. I've set the size to retrieve emails to all which has made no difference. I did read a few posts about the standard factory email app not doing html properly, but that seems unlikely to me no?

Anyway, if anytone can shed any light that would be great.........

cheers,

Hackney.

Hi hackney,

I had the exact same problem. Had a 3GS and used no data, then it started to triple on my SGS2. The first month I just attributed to high downloads, but the second month was really high as well (good thing I have a 2GB limit!). I fixed it easily by going to Settings -> Accounts and Sync and turning off Background Data. There was a hell of a lot going on that I didn't need and my battery life got quite the extension.

Not sure about the email thing I'm afraid. I use the Gmail app and that uses html. The regular Email app doesn't.
