Ics

I see HTC has talked about phones getting ICS, has anyone heard anything from the Motorola camp? I know it's still early. I was impressed with ICS the phone not somuch. It will be great on our MoPho's :)

A Moto rep in Germany said that the new Droid RAZR will be getting it in early 2012. I'd expect to officially have ICS on the Photon by next summer. It may come earlier since it uses a Tegra 2. The current crop of Android tablets all use the Tegra 2 and ICS is supposed to unify the tablet and phone versions. The only things I think Moto would have to worry about are the different camera modules in these devices and getting ICS to play nice with Webtop.

I agree, we'll probably see ICS in the summer. I doubt many current Gingerbread phones will see an update very quickly, it took most OEMs several months to start rolling out 2.3 last year.

They'll probably work backwards. I'm expecting it to look like this...

1. RAZR
2. OMAP 4 Devices (Atrix 2, Bionic)
3. Tegra 2 devices (Droid X2, Atrix, Photon 4G, Xoom)

3 may come before 2. Not sure about OMAP 3 devices like the Droid X, but they may be capable of running ICS. We have to see if the SGX530 is up to the challenge.

I also hope Motorola replaces Webtop with the standard ICS tablet/netbook UI. If ICS detects a 10"+ display, it will automatically switch to the larger UI (at least it does in the SDK). I see this as a better-than-webtop experience.

At this point I have a lot of faith in motorola. I would expect to see ics on the photon by late winter early spring. But the way motorola has been releasing updates for the photon gives me hope for a timely release

I agree! I think Motorola will want ICS on as many phones as they can. Do you think it will be easier to port it over on phones with MAP or Sense (im thinking MAP)

From the sound of things its own to take nearly a complete overhaul of the stock UIs to make ICS really shine and HTC and Moto aren't going to want to release a half baked phone. That being said IIRC, Sense is one of the easiest ROMs to port.

I fully expect Motorola will release ICS updates before HTC does. The current notBlur is one of the lighter UI skins, especially compared to Sense. HTC still seems to be on the fence about updating current phones, but I suspect they will eventually (once they've figured out what they're releasing next year). The next Evo may very well be the first HTC phone to ship with ICS.

I'm hoping that with Motorola's UI being less cumbersome than Sense, we'll be lucky enough to get the first of the ICS updates.

I know Samsung is always several steps behind (w/ exception to the Nexus line) as far as updates are concerned (maybe that'll change w/ the SGS II). HTC usually is relatively close in timing with Motorola as far as updating their devices.

My guess would be sometime in Feb./March

How does it wipe out your homescreen? It's a secondary launcher. Just like any secondary launcher, when you download it, you have to re-customize your homescreens. If you remove that launcher, your phone still reverts to what you had before (that shouldn't go away). I think you should take a look at the Launcher thread to really comprehend how the Launcher's work:

Have you downloaded Homesmack? Use that to switch back and forth from your OEM launcher to the ICS launcher. That'll allow you to see what you have on your homescreens on the OEM launcher (or whatever other launcher you're using).

for me it was wipe out (cuz i dont remember what i had where :p:p:p:p)

not that it "wipes out" things....just started over....

though it did lock up a few times...

looks cool though...
