Hello and Nexus vs Droid Razr Info request

Newbie
Hello to all.
I'm new to Android and wasn't sure where to ask so here it goes.
I currently am suffering with a Blackberry Bold(I know I know).
I am up for a new VZW phone and luckily missed the Iphone 4s pre-sale or I would have made that mistake.
My observations regarding the Droid Razr vs Galaxy nexus are as follows:
Razr has Gorilla glass Nexus doesn't?
Razr has 8mp vs 5mp for Nexus but sensors can be deceiving?
Razr has sd slot but not Nexus?
Razr has hdmi out but not nexus
Razr has better encryption?

Nexus has ICS which Motorla claims will be coming soon but being from a Blackberry device I know how promises can be broken CONSTANTLY.
Nexus has a removable battery(Again I know how to do that owning a Brick I mean Blackberry)
NOW TRUE AGAIN!-Nexus has a better processor and Razr may be over-tasked(battery/heat issue possible?) MOTO just changed spec. page to OMAP4430 after showing OMAP4460 earlier.
Nexus has a huge screen

I am not going to mess with the software so a Locked boot-loader doesn't matter to me does it?

I guess I'm up in the air but looking for anything i missed so I can make up my mind.
I'm leaning towards the Razr because of the sd slot and durable exterior
but battery life issues on a sealed battery are a concern.
Coming from Blackberry is Gingerbread that bad to go to hoping I can upgrade to ICS in "early 2012"

Thanks for any helpful input you can give.
Tim

First - welcome to AF.

Lots of info around here so have fun digging around.

Some of your answers:

The 8mp vs 5mp - can be deceiving. The Nexus has zero lag and panoramic options. And the build of the camera can make a huge difference in how the pics actually turn out. Nexus is supposed to be good in low light as well. And has the 1080p video.

No sd slot on the Nexus from what I understand but reading other info if it's similar to the Nexus S. It has 1Gb patitioned for the OS, and apps. And the rest of the storage is partitioned as the SD card.

Nexus doesn't have hdmi but you can buy a micro USB to HDMI cable

The processors are both 1.2Ghz.

As far as the glass that is used, encryption, battery I can't answer those things with any certain knowledge as I haven't really looked at those too much (battery is going to be your biggest noticeable difference on whatever phone you go to - IMO blackberry has that almost perfected)

Going from blackberry to Gingerbread or straight to ICS shouldn't be too bad. It's a learning curve for sure but not impossible. And there's plenty of help here on AF.

in my honest opinion bud

if your not going to root/rom ever
get the RAZR its made by moto it is a very sturdy phone, can handle alot of punishment

if you feel like you may one day want to root/rom your phone, then get the nexus

regardless its your decision to make, hope this will give you better insight

Thanks that's is my line of thinking but the permanent battery is troubling.
I am just so sick of my Blackberry.
I would love a phone that had all the specs of the Droid Razr but included a removable battery, ICS, and was a world phone, I could care less if it was 20% thicker to accomplish this.
I know the phone I want will be rumored as soon as I buy one of these:)

i quit playing the waiting game, im getting the nexus once i can, what you choose is what you choose, you got to make sure you will be happy with the phone, and yes a non removeable battery is troubling, i have had several moto phones freeze on me, and required the battery pull, they are basically stating it wont happen... riiiiight

No, they are stating that there is a series of key presses that will do the same thing.

Both are similar but different.
RAZR Dual Core 1.2 4430
Nexus Dual Core 1.2 4460
Difference? 4460 has a faster GPU and looks to be the better for OC (was supposed to be a 1.5)
The RAZR has a stronger and wet resistant screen but is not as good looking as the Nexus. SD card is comes down to how often do you take it off, I have a 16GB on my Inc and its been inside ever since I got it. Cameras are also up in the air one thing however, the RAZR can record in HD with the FF also. Now the main one, OS, I would EASILY take 4.0 over a moto skinned 2.3, horrible experiences on Moto skins. Thats my take.

If I had to choose one it would be Razr, it doesnt really matter that the GPU is not clocked as high, increased clockspeeds alone wont make allot of difference, if anything the Razr will have higher framerates as the screen resolution is allot lower.

I would like the Nexus but storage is an issue, chances are the 32GB version won't even be available here and even if it is they will charge allot more for it, some sites are talking

I saw a pretty huge difference from 100mhz bump on the GPU comparing a Galaxy S phone to a Bionic or Optimus 3D which also have a high res comapred to the S. Sure it was a single core vs dual but OC the CPU won't give you much higher frames and 2.3 is not a true OS for a dual core CPU. The difference from the 4430 and 4460 is also about 100mhz on the GPU.
Its not Exynos or A5, but it'll blow everything else. I see great looking smooth games and programs still on the aged iPhone 4. I can only imagine what ICS will do with a better SOC.

IMO...I've owned Samsung phones with Super Amoled Screens...One Word,,Beautiful!

And I've owned Moto phones...Most recently the Bionic,,,The screen is very good, not perfect, but very bright and vibrant! Slight Pixelation, nothing as bad as some may say, but with certain colors it's there.

I'd have to see both the Nexus and Razr in person to decide which one I'd rather use on a daily basis...

However...Gorilla Glass is tough, very tough from what I've seen and how phantom scratches pop up. If your like me, and you dont want to put a screen protector on, Gorilla Glass is key. Why it's not on the Nexus I have no Idea. It's on Galaxy S devices...So that's weird why it wouldnt be on the Nexus.

As for Moto's UI...I really like it on my Bionic....Very slick, and very fast for an over lay, does'nt bog down the phone..

Thanks for all the input everyone.
After waiting so long I guess I'll hold off on any pre-orders and wait to hear what the first hand accounts are.
Going from the bold to the Nexus,it seems too big but better to put it in my hand and pocket before I dismiss a nice big screen.

Don't know about that, it's an increase but it's hardly huge, will be interesting to see how it compares at the higher clockspeed.

It certainly won't blow everything else.

I was torn between Razr and Nexus in the beginning, but seeing the MicroSIM slot on the Razr it had to be dismissed. Changing phones quite often and owning a few phones and 4 SIMs would be too big a hassle to have one phone iwth MicroSim.

And I was so close to preordering the Razr - I was alsmost certain to get it over the Nexus.

Good point for people that juggle sims, but with other regions also getting the Razr, it may be a short term concern.

Wonder when micro sims will be common?

Does not change anything. Whatever region gets it, it does not change the fact that most phones have normal and not microSIMs.

Wonder when micro sims will be common?

I hope never.

Jeeeeeeez....Seriously now! Major bummer to me right now...I'm in the same boat! Why the heck can't these manufacturers or carriers get it right! First the Nexus with its friggin cloud and no SD slot, and now the Razr with it's Micro SIM! Can't they just leave things well alone. Especially little things like this?

The more I think about this all, the more mad I get! If the Bionic just had a kick ass camera with a faster autofocus I'd just keep it and stay put until some serious hardware hits in early 2012.

Good lord. Just cut your SIMs into micro-SIMs and use adapters for your phones that use full-sized SIMs. Easy peasy.

Here's a cutter that comes with four adpaters for $4:
Apple iPhone 4 SIM Card Cutter with 4 Micro SIM Adapters Silver

Lol...its just a headache! Uncalled for IMO. No other phones on at&t's network use the micro sim (except for the iphone) as far as I know! And now vzw will start doing the same crap with certain phones. Its just annoying!

Uhhhhh...iPhone does. ;)

The market is heading that way, so SOMEBODY besides Apple had to fire the first mainstream shot at some point.

added:

Nexus not micro sim?

Lol...moronic of me.. left the iphone out cause I was typing so fast...hahaha. gotta fix, that was the whole point of my post, meaning iphone is the only one that has the micro sim on at&t
Well, the iPhone is over half of their smartphone market.
