Sync With Outlook

I just purchased a TB and found information about syncing TB to Outlook "HTC SYNC 3.0.5579 FOR HTC THUNDERBOLT

What's the benefit of syncing with Outlook? I have Outlook on my home computer and I just set up my phone to pull email over the air and I can either sync with the Outlook (Exchange) server or come home and delete files I want off my phone. If you set up your email correctly then everything you do on your phone (move/delete emails etc) should sync with what you do on Outlook. Am I missing what the benefits are in syncing with Outlook on a computer or when people say "sync with outlook" do they mean that they want to set up their phone to pull emails that they get from an account they use Outlook on a home computer?

I should have been more specific. First of all I do not have an exchange server so I will be syncing with Outlook desktop. Second thing is not the syncing of email but I want to sync my contacts and calendar (and if possible notes and tasks) between the TB and Outlook 2007.

Ok, that makes a little more sense. When I hear "Outlook" I automatically think Email. Who is your email provider? I have Hotmail for my Outlook and using Outlook hotmail live connector to get my contacts/calendar etc etc. Gmail provides a similar service over the air I thought. I guess some of the other email providers may not provide a system that is as robust as having an Exchange server.

If you do in fact have a hotmail account, I recommend Outlook Hotmail connector for connecting to Outlook.

I do not want to use the hotmail connector because it limits the notes field in contacts to 1024 characters and this causes me a problem. So that is why I am interested in the HTC sync or the Funambol sync or other sync methods that are more flexible.

There are still plenty of options. If you haven't already, take a look at SyncDroid.net. They have a pretty complete list of the various Outlook to Android sync options - including our own CompanionLink for Outlook (which I can answer any questions about, if you like).

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the link it is very informative. Please tell me the advantage of using CompanionLink versus the free or less expensive methods of linking, I am particualrly interested in Funambol.

A lot of it depends on your needs. We've developed our sync solution to be powerful and customizable. For example, there are 4 sync options (both wired and wireless options). We also offer a free companion app called DejaOffice. This is designed to let you get the data from Outlook into your device (things like Categories, custom recurring events, custom fields, etc) that wouldn't otherwise transfer over to the built-in Android apps. Additionally, we provide free phone/email support to all our customers.

I encourage you to look around to see what best fits your needs. That said, I'd also encourage you to check us out. All our product come with a 2-week free trial, and I'm always happy to help if you have any questions. Let me know if there's anything more I can help you with!

I was in the same boat wanting to sync notes and task. I was doing it from my work PC so the on-line options were limited. I went with VCOrganizer and the VCO-Bluetooth option. This works perfectly as a stand alone (i.e., not live OTA) sync. However, it is not cheep...

My TB is coming tomorrow and I will try that as my Outlook sync method. Not being able to sync with Outlook was the reason I did not buy a Android device when my last upgrade was available.
