Audio output terrible

I just got my Atrix 2 yesterday in hopes of it replacing my iPod touch as a music and phone device.

I loaded up my stuff and went to my car to test it out (obviously through the headphone jack) and I was dramatically disappointed. I went straight to Amazon to look at the price of the latest iPod model!

There are just plain out frequencies that are muffled or missing on the Atrix 2. Doesn't take a good ear to hear it either.

I mean, it works, but it's not good by far.

Do remember that this is a phone first, and a music player (and everything else) second. Apple created the iPod (originally) to play music therefore you will hear a much better experience on the iPod versus the stock music player on your Atrix 2. I use doubletwist, paired with their equalizer and I am getting GREAT sound out of the device after a few little tweeks. Hope this helps you enjoy your phone more!

After digging around I found that there's all these 3d/voice/spatial effects enabled by default, so I turned it all off and am going to test again later this afternoon. I'm not getting excited but we'll see. I hope so. I returned my iPhone 4S for this and I can't exchange my phone again.

I was using Doubletake's default settings and the EQ is only available in the paid version.

Also, you can try PowerAMP. It has EQ settings. I have the pro version and it sounds really good on my Atrix 4G.

You can also look at the bit rate of the music files you put on the phone. If it is a really Low bit rate the music is going to sound bad. Anything lower than 128kbps I believe then the quality starts to degrade. Even some of my music that is at 128kbps sounds meh. I would try 320kbps it sounds better although the file size does get a bit bigger around 12 mbs for a 5min song. So you could try that and that might help.

After diabling all the effects in the the Sound options (Settings > Sound > Media audio effects > Wired stereo speakers > disable) I was quite relieved to find that it's not so bad after all.

However, the mid-high range is significantly less balanced (too loud) compared to the same CD source material - the iPod is more accurate.

I wish Motorola would disable the "3D" and "Extreme bass" settings from the factory ROM. If you have any doubts about the sound - please check those settings first.

What didn't you like about the 4s? I got one last week and I am not impressed. Sure Siri is cool but that is about it. Having to do everything through Itunes is a pain in the you know what. I am also hearing my text ring tone while I am on a call and that drives me nuts. Then last night it started freezing and I could not select any downloaded apps.

I am thinking about going with the Atrix instead but just don't know. I had an inspire and loved it except I could not hear it and it was big and bulky.
