Root Rooted Stock 893 users feedback

So, I updated to the 893 update but I quickly loaded R3Blurr3d 2.0. I do notice that 4g and 3g data has improved but I haven't really notice the supposed battery management improvements. I wanted to know if you guys noticed any differences.

On 2.0, my battery usage still has phone idle and cell standby as my top battery users. Is this still true for stock 893?

Let me know.

Thanks everyone.

Not included.... You have go back to stock, flash and then install rom. Full instructions over at xda.

I think I'll wait for the OTA before updating.

For me the Data has been iffy here in phx since the outage, signal has been horrible lately. I did the update/ forever root and cant really comment too much. My phone was never bugged so I never had the same issues. I am running .893 and 2.0.. the quadrants tho seem to be more consistent though. 2400-2500. Battery life is still good but havent really been away from a charger long enough to test its life considering its my days off. Tomorrow will tell.

I have not done anything but root and flash several versions of th3ory roms, but my 'about phone' says 'system version 5.5.893.xt875...'

Does that mean I already have the .893 update? if so, where did it come from? If not, how would I know what version I have?

No... the only reason it says it is because you are on theory rom 2.0.. you are missing the radio and the kernel. your phone just shows u on it since the rom incorporated the fixes.

My fault. Sorry. Let me clarify. I was hoping for the feedback from the users that didn't flash 2.0. I wanted to know if any of the updates that moto implemented on the 893 update worked. Specifically battery management update. Theory rebuilt the 893 system with his tweaks so I was wondering if his tweaks impacted the stock update because I'm not seeing any changes to my battery usage percentages.

Bythe time i got my phone restored rooted and 893ed, my battery was almost dead so so far i cannot comment on battery life. I can however tell you that 893 did not fix my 3G issue. It still drops out after 10 or so minutes of being asleep. Very disappointing that i did a factory reset for nothing.

What battery mode are you running?

Default. Night time saver.

Just switched to custom. We'll see if that helps. It says it will never turn data off during peak hours.

Sorry bout the double post.

Night time saver disables your data after 15 mins. I used to have this same problem too til I checked the settings. I currently have it set to performance.

Haha. I wonder how many of the 3G issues people are having could be fixed in this way.

IIRC, isn't the default setting nighttime anyway?

XMR, I'm running .893 without any other ROM on top of it - battery life has improved for me by just a hair, in that my phone is currently on 17:46:44 uptime and counting (extended battery), which is a bit more than my usual 15 hours, and that's considering that between 1 AM and 4 AM I was continuously reading Manga using the manga Watcher app. Normally my phone would be dead by now, b/c of that heavy use overnight, but it's still kicking - I just got the 15% notification about 20 minutes ago.

I cannot say about anything else - I've had no data drops, but I lie in an area that is hopelessly behind the times, and thus only has 3G service in the first place.

Anything else you want to know?

Hey thanks John. Can you tell me what percentage your cell standby and phone idle are?

They are always going ot be high when you're not using your phone a lot.

Take your phone on a brand new charge and using it continuously for an hour - then check your stats - those will be very low, if on there at all. now, let it sit for an hour - then you'll see them go up.

The percentage used is not the percentage of the total charge of the battery, but of the currently used charge - so, if you're at 50% charge, then 50% is used, which means that, at, say 54% for idle, you've actually used only 27% of your battery's charge in maintaining phone idle (50% times 54%, or in words, 54% of 50%), etc.

For most of the last 2 hours my phone has been just sitting here, but before that, I was using the phone a whole lot - starting with 3+ hours of manga reading in the early morning - and sure enough, they are:

Display: 27%
Android OS: 24%
manga Watcher: 21%
WiFi: 6%
Voice Calls: 5%
Device Analyzer: 4%
Cell Standby: 4%
Phone Idle: 3%

The less your phone gets used, the more time will go to Idle and Standby. the more it gets used the less time gets allocated to them.

HTH

yes, the default setting is nighttime, which I think is stupid. I thought this whole time that I had an issue with my 3G when in fact it was just being turned off by Battery Mode 15 minutes after my phone went to sleep.

I'm not completely sure, as i haven't approached it scientifically or anything, but I'm pretty sure my battery life has gotten better with the .893. My data still sucks tho. (usually getting around .2-.3 Mbps d/l according to speedtest.net).

At home I'm on WiFi - I've had a Wireless N router for going on 3 years now, and it's been a blast, the only real downside was when I had the DROID and it could only do G. With the BIONIC, I turned off G and left it at N only, and it was a little better - right up until I applied the 5.6.893 update. On Sunday.

Now, it's heinously good....I really don't miss not having 4G out here with this WiFi lol....

See my post http://androidforums.com/bionic-all...om-supporting-5-6-893-update.html#post3398316 for more details....

My signal strength was through the roof with .886 and 5.5.893, now, it's actually better for me. I'm sitting right in front of my router, and this is the first time I've actually seen it showing a Signal Strength of higher than -40 dBm (showing ~ -34, which is much more accurate, since the router is literally 3 feet away)

Just installed the latest version of .893 ... which is 5.7.893. Really liking what I'm seeing so far. More testing tomorrow morning. Will report back.

It's just nice to know that "they" are working on this phone to make it better and better.

We could be finding these ourselves if we had the time to fool around in cheesecake!

And I boldfaced and made the ver number change red - shame on you not making it obvious....especially for us old folk! :p

Lol - you beat me to the edit....

Ooooh Ooooh Ooooh Ooooh Ooooh Ooooh Ooooh Ooooh !

I forgot to mention - this was not a stock ROM - I have 15 apps frozen in TiBu and I never unfroze! :D :D :D :D :D
