Basically, my friend has an S2 on 2.3.5 KI8 and is running siyah kernel 1.8

he wants to upgrade to v2.1 b14..

ive told him to :-

  • Boot into recovery mode use CWM to run a backup
  • Then wipe his device
  • Flash an insecure KI8 kernel from XDA forums using odin
  • Flash Siyah v2.1 B14 using odin
  • Restore using CWM
Does this sound correct to you guys...?:)

actually still do a back up always handy

If he downloads the CWM zip version he can just flask it in CWM but install zip from sd card option

or if he downloads the tar version to do it via odin

P.s. left you a msg about extended batteries

There are 2 ways to do it.
1) flashing the .tar file via odin
2) flashing the zip file via CWM

2) Is probably the easiest. Put the zip file on the internal memory. Reboot the phone into CWM recovery. Go to install zip from sdcard, choose the zip file then flash and reboot.

but on the v2.0 and v2.1 of siyah it says you will lose root so doesnt he need to flash an insecure kernel to gain root access and then flash the new siyah

i apologise lads, i miss read it, it says if you are stock it will not auto root your phone... so as he is rooted atm with siyah 1.8 he should keep his root access when flashing siyah v2.1 B14
