Motorola Droid RAZR madness..you in?

Android Expert
The madness is about to begin. I haven't been this stoked about a device since the OG Droid was released.

I've heard nothing but great things about the handset from some very respectable insiders. This will be quite a ride and I for one am looking forward to going on it with Motorola and Verizon. One bad arse piece of equipment has FINALLY arrived. Kevlar, Gorilla Glass, Stainless Steel Chassis, SAMOLED, Splash Guard and accesories galore. I couldn't pass this bad arse beast up. Best built phone that I have ever seen.

NOTHING even comes close.

Who's pre-ordered it and what are your thoughts?

Pre-ordered a few days ago from a sim-free retailer in the UK. I am not super excited, because it was simply time for an upgrade and I will have my first Android phone without physical keyboard - third Android phone and 3rd Motorola.

I am pump, I cannot wait till I have this beast.
I am trying to find out the day I will be getting it in the mail. I will take off so I don't miss it being delivered and having to wait another day.
Any day been set yet? Mine still says Ships Nov 10th, hope it will be before that. Like next Tuesday.

Still have my OG Droid which is getting slower by the minute and this is the phone I'm looking to have replace it. I had my fingers crossed for a surprise drop today but clearly that didn't happen. I'll just have to make due until the next window.

I wish the documentation would show up somewhere. I still only have guesses that it has LED notification support which is a big deal for me.

its going to be interesting on seeing how the enclosed battery affects the modding ability on this device.....i'm anxious to get my hands on one in the store though.

I'm about 80% in. I really need a new phone, and this one is the first to market of the uber phones. I just need to see it in person to make up my mind. Looked at the GNex, but it isn't a style I particularly care for. But if on launch day the Razr doesn't have some obvious flaw, I'll snag one.

It has LED notes. 4 Colors I believe

4 colors???? Ouch. The OG Droid can do more than that but was limited. I was hoping this one might actually be better--not worse.

I use different colors for different senders of texts mainly. If my wife sends one it's orange. If my son sends one it's red, brother sends one it's blue, work sends one it's green (and so on).

Oh well. The other phones mainly have no such ability so I can't pass up the phone over it.

The OG Droid has a 4 color LED too. They mix those 4 colors in different ways to make the many colors you use for texts. While I doubt it is any better, I also doubt it is any worse in the RAZR.

I read 6 somewhere else but this statement sums it up pretty nicely. It wont be any worse than the droid

I am going to wait and see how the battery holds up and if there are any glaring bugs with it. If not and the nexus release is no where to be found then I probably will get the razr. Only if the battery life is great though.

pre-ordered yesterday. was fired up. today, not so much. but i KNOW that as soon as i get that email stating that it's been shipped, I won't be able to sleep until it gets here :)

The most amazing thing happened for me today! I went online to pay my bill, and my status said I was eligible for an upgrade! It used to say 6/22/12 was my discounted eligibility date. I just used an upgrade from another line to get the Samsung Droid Charge in August, I had bought DX about a year ago with my upgrade. So, I ordered the RAZR, can't wait to get it and so sorry I ever left Motorola! I just had to get a replacement Charge on Tuesday because the one I had was a piece of junk! Have a new battery cover coming for it and it will look like new and I can sell it on eBay! Can't wait, hope it ships sooner like the other threads are saying it might!

I'm so damn tempted to pre-order this phone but my not so great experience purchasing the Bionic at launch has made me a bit apprehensive. Anyone have any plans to test a 64gb micro sdxc in this bad boy? Being a media whore I've been doing some research and I'm hoping the Razr won't have any problems reading sdxc with a fat32 reformat. Also, congrats to all those who pre-ordered!

Where did you get the info that Razr can read SDXC? I would love that to be true.

Well I'm hoping that it can. It's not a 100% sure thing but there is info that even devices such as the OG Droid have been able to read Micro SDXC. Supposedly all it would take is a reformat from the default exFAT file system that the card comes with, to FAT32. Only negatives that I've read is the under 4gb file limit of FAT32. To me this would be a huge pro for the Razr in my personal Razr vs Nexus comparisons. Here are some links for you to check out.

The more I look and read about this phone the more I am really starting to like it. I mean especially with rumors flying around that the nexus has pretty bad battery life. I at first wanted ICS but then again it is no big deal and I can wait a little while for ICS to launch on the razr. I am going to wait and see how battery holds up for you guys and then if it is pretty good I will buy.

Until we really see ics with some time in users hands, it's hype vs fact on the upgraded OS. We already know about GB, and it's solid. In some ways I like that ics will have its bugs worked out on a different handset to start with honestly.

Where are you seeing the Gnex has poor batt life?

One thing that doesn't super impress me is browser speed on the Gnex. Once Razr gets ICS and all the HW accel goodness, those two phones should be on pretty equal footing.

That said, are there any potential updates GNex could get the Razr could NOT take advantage of? I'm looking at you, 4460/4430 debate.

Some testers were reporting about it on twitter. I doubt being a 4430 rather than a 4460 would limit any update. Only thing is the 4460 could be overclocked higher which doesn't really matter to me.
