Wow. I wonder if they chop a half-year (and more) off the contracted time to permit an early upgrade as AT&T does.
From the Home page of this forum:
It
We are allowed to upgrade when we hit 2 years of our 3 year contract. If we sign in for another 3 years of course. It's pathetic!
These phones become obsolete long before we can upgrade them.![]()
In fact, Rogers recently changed their policy from 24 months to 30 months for early upgrades. If you fight with them they will still do it earlier, but it's getting pretty ridiculous.
Then they did us a "favour" and now you can upgrade early, however there is an early hardware upgrade charge that varies wildly depending on how much you have left in your contract, your plan, your device, etc.
Well, there is a silver lining if you permit yourself to enjoy it. The phone you have may be technically obsolete, but far from functionally obsolete. I can early upgrade to the S2 (or other phone flavors) in December, but I really have no interest in doing so. My Captivate, with its Apex ROM and a couple of tweaks, is bopping along just fine, thank you. Fast and stable. I don't rely on Samsung for anything, nor do I care if Ice Cream, Ice Milk, or Ice Capades is ever promised for the device. I'm happy, and my philosophy is simple. Screw 'em. Sure is better than being the screwee.
