Frequency of responses? What responses? I've seen very few responses from VZW, short of the one over on the VZW forums... and I'm still doubtful of it's accuracy. The update page on Verizon support has not changed, it still has the same (buggy) build number.

huh?

Yeah, that chart is next to worthless.

I wouldn't call it worthless.

I'm a Dinc owner who upgraded from an Eris and I found the chart and article to be very enlightening. I rooted to bypass this crazy update delay and am happy now with Nils Business Gingersense. But most common users don't have the time to figure out how to do that themselves.

Apple's control of software and hardware with little or no modification by carrier allows for this broad level of consistency and update to their phones. It highlights an inherent value and longevity that iPhone users get over Android users. The author of the chart's comments about the Android tactic of making customers buy new phones to take advantage of new OS upgrades is true--and costly to most. Makes we want to seriously consider an iPhone. I have to admit, though, that iPhone hardware is beginning to lag behind current phone specs. I'm sure Apple is aware and is probably working to move up an iPhone5 rollout sooner to at least upgrade screen size and 4G capabilities to match that latest crop of Android phones. Again, that shows how Android causes you to drop hardware to get the latest software (and some hardware improvements too.) I'm sure Droid Bionic users feel left out in the cold with the Razr coming just a couple months after. Anyway, I know most on this forum are big Android supporters, and I sort of am too. Just wish manufactures and carriers can deliver on their promised updates.

The point is most of the information on that chart is wrong, and the iPhone data is just plain wrong...

I would say it's accurate. It is for the Inc if you still are on 2.2 Froyo... You can't compare it to Apple though, that is not a fair comparison. Apple only has their OS with their phone... Haven't check this thread in a while, the posts are slowing down quite a bit. Hope nobody still thinks the Inc is getting GB... I'm still hanging onto my rooted Inc, but keeping my eye out for whats on the horizon...

From the Verizon forum post:

Update: This response was referring to the HTC Thunderbolt. Sorry for the confusion. Thank you.

Bingo! Didn't see that one coming!

Getting kinda depressing here..I rooted after 2.2, then updated to GB using the ROM on xda and my Inc is running great! I never used another ROM but the released ones and I am perfectly happy with the phone. It took a couple of hours of research to figure out how to do it and voila! The phone is a lot more fun and runs better when it is rooted. Try it and you will love your inc again!

They did test. Many times problems crop up that didn't in testing. Verizon and HTC have spoiled us with a seemless froyo upgrade.

Itd be one thing if the issues were rare things that you might not see in testing, only would see with wide-scale deployment. Its an entirely different thing for it to be like this rollout was where lots of people were reporting issues.

Verizon track record for updates is better than most.

Has anyone seen this article?

Android owners getting stiffed on OS updates, study claims | Digital Media - CNET News

I'd say the title is fairly accurate lol

No offense but that's such a load of junk. On Verizon devour is the only one I can think of that didn't receive at least 2 updates (at least 1 os)

Also, while ics has been introduced it is not really out yet. That iArticle considers every phone out not.to be up.to date because it is not.ics.

See because of individual ui, they should really be.comparing ui current versions like sense and.blur not os.

Hahahaha. iArticle.
Good response.

We (by we I mean somebody else) should get a petition together for a definitive answer.
Definite answer on what? “if we'll get it?" The answer to that is, yes, of course we will. From the first release, 99% of the software is working just fine. They just need to finish the last 1% that isn't. Given HTC has definitely emphasized its commitment to support its phones through ota updates, we will get the GB ota again.
If the question is "when will we get the update?" Nobody knows. Anything they can tell you is a wildass guess. They have to actually write the fixes, the development team has to sign off on it, HTC's testers need to sign off on it, overall HTC needs to decide the update is deliverable to Verizon, Verizon needs to test it, sign off on it, and finally schedule the push. It might take 2+ Weeks to go from finishing one step to starting the next, based on the availability of that group. So ignoring the time it takes to actually write the software it can take anywhere from 2-10 Weeks to get a finished update out the door. If there is a problem, it might have go back to any stage in the process. The long and short of it is, it will come when ever it feels like it.

That's great. But how many dinc owners will have moved on to other phones by the time the ota comes? Maybe not many... Since most are casual users who don't even know about the ota. I guess it's the early adopter that visits this forum frequently that's the most disappointed and frustrated.

By the way, I don't know if it has been mentioned somewhere in this thread already, but the Asurion replacement/refurb phones are being shipped with Gingerbread. At least mine was.

And after rooting, I am thinking about downgrading to 2.2, because I don't really notice or appreciate any improvements and I now have issues with voice search while driving that I didn't have under 2.2.

What's the build number? Is it the same as the (failed) GB update?
