Disabling the background data from the status bar?

cdl

Android Enthusiast
Hi all,

does the stock rom have a widget or an option in the status bar to disable background data? Not autosync or data, just background data. The only widget I found which does it is this:
https://market.android.com/details?id=ccc71.mtw
but it requires a rooted phone.

I noticed that disabling background data tends to increase my battery life (I don't have a Galaxy S2, at least not yet) on my Milestone 2. Disabling autosync often leaves background data on.

Thanks.

There are a few quick settings apps which let you to do this and other things. Or if you don't want an app or widget you can just press the power button for a couple of seconds and you get the option to turn data connection off.

That would cut your data connection altogether butty. I think ask that cdl wants to toggle is background data as per menu, accounts and sync, background data.

No quicker way than doing it this way that I know of.
Perhaps tasker will do it more easily, I don't know.

That's right. Unfortunately, for some weird reason, accessing that menu may take up to one minute on my Milestone 2 (I'm not the only user with this problem), whereas it was instant on my Milestone 1. Is it instant on the Galaxy S2?

Sorry, I'm easily confused. Its been a long time since I've used a stock rom so I'm not to sure if it works or its just a feature for most custom roms. If you long press the auto sync button on the status bar it takes you to the sync menu where you can turn of background data. If that doesn't work on stock there is an app called sync settings which takes you to the sync menu in one click.
