Help 3G drops off until restart, anyone else??

Having this same problem. Sometimes airplane mode fixes it. Other times have to reboot. Aaargh. Very frustrating. No other phones on Verizon that I really want right now until Galaxy Nexus comes out.

OTA update is due out this month. If the leaked versions are any indication, then it will be a much better scenario after the update, b/c there is an LTE and a regular Radio fix in the second smaller update (unless the final update combines the first and second one).

I can't even seem to switch to 3g anymore, whenever I try I get no connection at all and just have to switch back to 4g. I do it once in awhile to conserve battery but I can't anymore, kinda frustrating. I tried it earlier today and couldn't get anything. I just tried now and after switching to 3g then putting it in airplane mode I got a connection. Same thing I did earlier which wasn't working. Hopefully this OTA update fixes that problem.

I recently upgraded to the bionic and immediately began having problems with it. In the past 2 weeks of owning this phone I have discovered a list of problems ranging from, Transfer from 4g/3g/1x network internet connection lost which requires a manual reboot in order to restore, random and frequent power recycling, lost or scrambled content on the phone including contacts,music, and applications, random force closing of pre installed applications, and distortion of the pin tile resolution. Myself along with many others have been extremely frustrated with this. I had verizon send out a new phone and received it last night and upon activation I mediately started experiencing the same problems again. I've contacted verizon's tier2 tech support and motorola's tech department and I would like to confirm the post from (johnlgalt) that an updated software patch will be sent out later this month to address all of these known issues.

It was previously stated as being release (OTA [over the air]) in November. It was stated yesterday to be within the next 30-60 days.

There is a leaked version now being tried by a number of users in this forum and the corrected version of that leak may end up being the OTA.

I'm seemingly in the same boat. My wife and I both upgraded our OG Droids to Bionics, and we live in a solid 3G area. When I say "solid" I mean that we have good coverage at 3G (3 bars at worst, 4 bars is common), and there is not 4G/LTE coverage for about 20 miles, so it should not be a boundry issue. Both of our phones will periodically drop the data connection (no "3G" listed on the status bar, and aps claim there is no data connection) or have the throughput drop to a trickle, seemingly at random, and in no relation to each other (as in, one phone is fine, the other is dead, sometimes one, sometimes the other, and they're in the same friggin' room). Sometimes airplane mode fixes it, sometimes a reboot fixes it, sometimes it has to fix itself.

That's annoying enough, but the fact that my wife is affected makes it eleventy billion times worse. If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy, and right now nobody is very happy.

By way of comparison, the OG Droids were rock solid on connectivity and throughput right up to the day we upgraded, so there is NO WAY I believe this to be a network coverage or usage issue. This is Bionic-specific.

you'd make a good mobster. My bionic has been dropping 3G more and more. This week has gotten worse. Looks like I'm gonna have to try the .893 Leak.

Got ya beat - closes 4G to me is 85 mile away.

I'm on the 5.7.893 update now and I have 0 problems.

maybe hold off another day or two, though, word is another leak has been found....

Hey everyone...new member because of this topic right here. Got this phone Friday. My first droid phone ever and instantly notice the dropping of 4G to 3G to what I assume is x1. Very frustrating because the first day I had the phone there was no issue. I really hope there is an update soon as I'm within my 14 days and I may just go ahead and trade for the Razr next week....(which might just have it's slew of own problems)....

Any word on that "newer" version of the pre-release you were talking about on the 3rd?
