Root Rooting on a Mac? Total Newbie here!

I would like to root my 4G. *I've read some of the info on using Revolutionary, however, it seems for Linux and Windows only? *Is there a way to root with my Mac? *My phone has had all the OTA updates, including the one a couple weeks ago. *I do have a windows boot on my MacBook, but rarely go on there and would rather not use it. *

I've never rooted a phone, so be gentle :D *What might "seem obvious" to you, probably not for me! *

Thanks!

Nope, theres no mac version.

If you have windows on your mac you should have no issues going with that route, and I would suggest doing that over methods described in the guide.

Let us know how it goes!

Thx, I will look at the windows version and make sure It's easy enough for me. Question, once I root, what is the biggest pain/obstacle of rooting? How often will I have to "mess" with the phone to keep up to date? Ex., now the only updates I do is OTA and apps in marketplace. I don't have to go searching for 3rd party upgrades and such. If rooting means I need to constantly go to forums and search for new upgrades/downloads/etc.., I might think twice about rooting. With 4 kids, 2 cats, dog, business to run.. time to "fool around" (no pun intended ;) with keeping up with my phone.

Anytime there is an update, there is a stock rooted Rom immediately, and it's posted here. If that's the only time you want to update, you can do this. Just let us know, and we'll help you.

You dont need to keep constantly searching for the next greatest thing. You can stick with the stock rom, or a nice polished ROM such as mikG and not have to worry about updating it. However, you may find (like many of us here have) that having all of the options available to you after root makes you into a flashaholic. There are TONS of different ROMs out there with different features(hacked hotspot, upgraded sense versions, even an early port of the next version of android that isnt even released yet!).

Once your rooted, you will no longer accept OTA's (doing so could really mess up your phone). Fortunately there is usually an updated stock rom available for download very quickly with the update already built into it.

Hi I also use a Mac and unfortunately there is no easy way to root on a Mac other than using a windows or linux boot (at least as far as I know). If you don't want to try on your windows boot it may be easy to find someone that would let you borrow their computer for 30 min. Once it is rooted you can pretty much do everything from the your Mac.

Being a mac owner myself and a total noob, I would just borrow someone's pc and follow the gingerbread for dummies guide. Its pretty easy to do since the nice peeps on this forum put it together. I just rooted my first phone two weeks ago with a stock rom in order to activate it. I thought that would be it, but I find myself already looking to flash soemthing else. Its not that scary once you do it. Definately do your research and ask questions along the way.

Its addicting, I tell ya!

Especially with ICS code being released today, its an exciting time to be rooted!
