Help Screenshots with Gingerbread without Root?

I thought screen shots without root was coming in Ice Cream Sandwich, not Gingerbread?

Try holding down the home button while pressing and releasing the power button.

All that does for me is bring up the task manager (while pressing home button) and turns the screen off when I press the power button. And yes, I continue to hold the home button while pressing the power button.

Sorry about that. My wife's phone is the E4G, and she doesn't have the GB OTA update yet. I have the E4GT (Gingerbread 2.3.4), and that's how you get screenshots with it. I'll dig a little when the E4G update happens. I think I'm going to do it manually. Wish me luck! ;)

My understanding is the Samsung Galaxy S II devices can take screen shots with Gingerbread, but the Galaxy S I devices cannot. My Epic is running Gingerbread and I cannot take a screen shot. Well, I can, but I am rooted.....

That should all change with ICS where all devices (even non-rooted ones) can take screen shots.

i have the Xperia Arc (gingerbread 2.3.4), and i had to press and hold the power button until the second menu came up, and that menu has a "take screenshot" option now. hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think it has been confirmed the screen shot without root works on the Galaxy S2, not the original Galaxy S phones.

I know this is an old thread but just wanted to share as I could not find a relevant answer for this. I am using a Samsung Galaxy Fit GT-S5670 running Gingerbread (2.3.6) and i am able to take a screenshot by following the steps below (just confirmed this works on my gf's HTC Explorer that doesnt have a physical home button) :-

1. Press the home button and power button at the same time. (you dont have to hold, just make sure you press at the same time)

2. Release the power button, then release the home button.

Thats it. A screenshot will be taken and will be saved to Screenshot folder on the sd card (automatically created if the folder is not there).

I dont know if this works on other phones as I dont have any to test it on but is working on the above mentioned models.
