Many of you probably already know this, but if you want to call one of your contacts from the dial pad screen and don't have a speed dial saved for them, you can just punch in the first 3 - 4 letters of their name on the keypad and their name will pop up above the keypad...then you just press their name and it puts their number in and you can call.
For example, I want to call Jessica...I just go to dial pad...punch in 5-3-7-7 (which spells J-E-S-S) and then it shows her name, I press it and then hit the call button and it dials her.
Here it is again in steps:
1. Bring up dialpad
2. Punch in letters of the person's name with keypad (5-3-7-7 = J-E-S-S)
3. Press the contact's name after it pops up (Jessica)
4. Hit call button
This is usually much faster for me than going into the contacts list and finding them. I know you can assign speed dials to contacts and you can also just make an icon for them on your home screen to instantly call them, but for people you don't call that often this is very useful.
EDIT: Want to warn you guys though...if you use this method to call someone and you don't press their name after it comes up and instead try to dial the numbers you put in, you'll screw this quick dialing method up and it won't work again for that person. Like in the Jessica example above, if I put in 5-3-7-7 and then hit the call button right away instead of pressing Jessica when her contact comes up, my phone will try to call the number 5377. Now that the phone has dialed the number 5377, the next time I punch in 5377, it will no longer show Jessica since I made the phone think that 5377 is a real number I call.
Well if you happen to make this mistake (I do it all the time), in order to fix this and get the feature back for quick dialing Jessica's name with the keypad, all you have to do is go to your call log, hit options, filter, and set it to Sent calls only (dialed numbers), and then find the misdialed number (in this case 5377), hold your finger on it and hit Remove from call log. Now when you go back to your dial pad screen and hit 5377, Jessica will come back up again.
So this is a nifty method for calling people on the phone but you just have to be a little careful
