Did all of this only to be told on reboot I am, wait for it... low on space! Cleared out cache (how can there be any left?), checked system updates and there it is updating! It actually rebooted after the countdown! After reboot I get a message that I am low on space and I need to clear cache.

Groundhog Day anyone?

I give up. The iPhone is looking better everyday. I don't have time for all this. I need a phone that works. Consistently.

Check out the Apple support forums, the grass is not always greener.

So it does make the 2nd update re-download?

And it sounds like (from comments on that links page) that you not only have to clear data partition, but also delete more apps.

got the first update yesterday, all was well most stuff seemed faster. then got low space notice last night don't know from what. This morning got the other update note, which of course failed. I tried the *#*#CHECKIN#*#* and reset the date then reset back which gave me the download again but that didn't work, just sat there after it counted down for reboot. So I downloaded the update file from here booted into hboot and installed from there. When it finished (let it sit for like 10-15 mins at the "eye" screen) i had 4.08.

oh shoot i set the date back and it made the update download

i didnt clear my cache partition, so i hope it doesnt give the same 'low space error'

i will be live blogging the next few min's events

-ooooh i have to clear the partition data to make it reboot! right? without this it gets stuck after the countdown

- i went into hboot and cleared the data partition, when my phone started up again my sd was missing

-i set the date back, and this time it did restart after re-downloading the patch

- and......f-me. i got the same "not enough space" message. i have 524mb avail. and i cleared the data partition. i guess i need to delete alot more apps.

-deleted more apps, got it up to 572mb free, cleared partition, set date back, redownloaded the patch, rebooted.....

IT WORKED!!! hooray! i have no reason to live anymore!
good bye forums. maybe ill see you again when its time to upgrade to see what folks are switching to. youve been swell.

- i think i messed up by resetting the date to present day while the update was downloading, somehow canceling it?

probably not it didn't help on mine.

try the downloaded file from here to your sd as update.zip and boot into hboot. that worked fine for me.

Wow. That was an ordeal.

I had to do the wipe cache bit. Then the check in to get the update to download and get past the reboot. Unfortunately, the first time I did it, I got the No Space. Grrr.
I then proceeded to delete a bunch of data and one app. Redid the wipe cache and checked in again. And SUCCESS!

Funny part is I am still planning on upgrading to Rezound in the next week or so. But dammit, I wasn't going to let this update get the best of me.

So i performed these steps and tried the check for updates....no luck. Did the *#*#check thing no luck. Did the date roll back and checked for the system update and still said up to date. Backed out and checked once more. It started to download. However got the low space issue again. It promted me to delete some apps. I was at about 380mb free. I deleted some rarely used apps and got very close to 400mb free. Deleted i more to get to the 400mb free, then perfomed the steps from the link above and did the changing date trick again. Checked for system update and it said currentley up to date. Backed out checked again started to download and proceeded to fully install. Dont know if the 400mb free is a number of signifigance or not but it worked for me.

Well, I've tried everything I've seen on here so far....backing everything up now to try the factory reset. Wish me luck!!

EDIT: Well, factory reset and nothing and tried all the tricking methods and still nothing. How long should it take to appear?

My suggestion is to follow the link that was given. To get the update to repush, change date to 1 month ahead and then. Checkin.

Wait.a few.minutes and follow instructions.

This SHOULD do the job. I still suggest not factory resetting unless you really want to do a factory reset.

If this method does not work, another will come out. The flawed. .3 gb can be lived with for the 24-72 hours until another fix can come if this one.doesn't.work.

The key is getting cache wiped and repushing using a future date.

I guess I've missed the boat and they've pulled the OTA update. Doing the date/time change and if I checkin, the checkin changes my date/time back to the current actual date/time automatically.

I just got off the phone with Verizon Wireless tech support. I explained the problem with the second update and "not enough space" error and asked what I could do to get the update again. She took me through the usual menu-> about phone->system updates rigamarole, and of course that didn't work. She then told me that that meant the update couldn't be "pulled" and that I'd have to wait a few days for Verizon to "push" it to me . She explained that this meant that it would just install one day or night automatically.

Anyone know whether this sounds plausible?

I had no problems updating, but now my battery life sucks really bad. And my camera still freezes after two pictures and I have to pull the battery out for it to reboot.

after several attempts got it to download , been on this screen for @20 mins
DSCF0072 [320x200].JPG

so for some reason it seems to be frozen, dunno why

ok seems to be updating now, some said to set the date "back" that was a nogo for me, caused my dinc to freeze up.
I set the date "forward" and it has already went thru the update routine and now is on the "eye"

ok that was the diff, for me, set the date forward, now on 4.0.8
