Help Leaked Update - did it solve your connections issues?

Did the *leaked* update fix your connection issues?

A poll. If you applied the leaked update (currently at 5.7.893), did it fix your issues, partially fix, no change, make things worse, or make your phone unusable b/c of a severe increase in connections issues?

No need to reply if you don't want to, you can if you want to though.

I am now two weeks into the update on an unrooted phone. All is still well. I live in a 3G only area and was routinely experiencing data drops before the update. I have not had a single data drop since updating.
I was at a conference in a 4G coverage area on Monday & Tuesday of this week. The phone switched flawlessly back & forth between 3G & 4G . I also manually switched the phone to 3G to conserve battery life when I wasn't actively using it. It moved back and forth fine with no lag or requirement to do anything additional (like toggling the airplane mode, etc.).
I've played with the video camera some and don't seem to be experiencing the focusing problems that have been reported.

Not rooted. Stock. Leak did not seem to help. Didn't make it worse either. Still lose connection on Bluetooth also.

I haven't installed the leaked update, but I can say my connection has been much better lately. I rarely ever dropped data, I did have problems switching to 3g where it would take forever to get a connection, or none at all. The last couple of weeks though it's been much better, I've been switching to 3g no problem whenever i want to conserve some battery.

The combo of the leaked update and changing the data setting in battery manager has improved my phone greatly. I still have some issues with 3g/4g dropping but much much less often now.

You're not the only one with issues after the update. Apparently my phone has problems going from 3G to 4G when data is being transmitted on 3G. I typically use Pandora when drying from home to out of town. Before the update it would switch from 3G to 4G while Pandora was running. Now I have to use airplane mode to get it to switch while Pandora is on. It switched to 4G if I have no data transfer. Also I seem to keep losing 3G every so often. Usually takes a few days but I would lose 3G completely until I reboot my phone. Airplane mode doesn't seem to fix it. While for some it's improved mine has gotten worse. Although I didn't have much problems before the update I am now having issues. I'm not fretting as I love my phone but I hope there's another leak or an official OTA.

As of this post, we have the following data:

  • Yes, Completely gone 20.00%
  • Sort of, less than before, but still there 40.00%
  • No change 20.00%
  • Made it a small bit worse 13.33%
  • Made it much more worse than before 6.67%

Now, statistically speaking, 60% of users applying the leak have improvements, and 80% applying the update do not see any detrimental effects.

That leaves 20% who've had more problems after applying the update.

I wonder if the bottom 40% have tried a factory reset after applying the update?

I had to go through a factory reset b/c I had originally applied the incremental updates, which broke WebTop, so I'm wondering if not going through a factory reset before applying the update is causing some (if not all) of these issues for for whom the update has made things worse?

Anyone who is having more problems because of the updates AND has applied the updates, please, if you're willing to try a procedure, let me know - I want to walk you through the entire flash to stock / then apply full update.

You will lose all your apps and settings, so consider this carefully. You'll need to manually restore them on your own, but I have another procedure for that as well.

I'm suspecting that it is an app that is causing some major issues here and hat it is carrying over the issues even after updating. I may be wrong, it may simply be your phone, or it may be a combination of various factors like your phone + your geographic location + some particular setup on your phone, who knows. This is not easy testing but since I am not having the issues I cannot under go the tests as I'd be a false positive.

... interesting ...

There are two other trends that appear over and over ... batteries (both sizes) starting to fail after a while and SIM cards poorly seated or somehow damaged. Replacement in both cases corrected almost all those direct problems.

If there was an easy way to get a list of installed apps perhaps we could compare two failing devices for an app that they have in common that is not on a non-failing device.

... Thom

There are several easy ways to do just that.

1) AppBrain - you sync your list of apps (via your Gogole Account login) and then you can share that list here - even an option (via the website at leat) to have it pre-formatted with BBCode for forum use.

2) Listables - written by our very own member Alostpacket - it will do this all on your phone, but it checks all your apps and then can save the info in HTML or Forum code (aka BBCode) as well.

Oops, AP's Listables does HTML, XML, CSV and plain text. My bad.

I did the incremental updates, full restore, then full update. I am currently running Purity 2.4 and have applied the PowerBoost.

Damn. I thought ALP's app did BBCode too. My bad.

I'll go bitch at him about it later lol....

Thanks for the lists, guys. I'm adding Hide tags to make the posts more readable.

He can spit out

csv
html
txt
xml

I think using CSV would be the most useful for this ... very easy to manipulate in Excel ...

Only txt is allowed on the uplaods here.

You don't upload, you literally copy and paste.

AppBrain copies the entire list into memory (clipboard) with BBCode formatting, and then when you paste it it alread has teh requisite URL tags, etc to make it a very nice list indeed.

See my example:

Phone: Motorola Droid Bionic
222 total, 185 free (83%), 37 paid (16%), 350MB total size, $143.33 total price

The only copy BBcode option I found was in Listables. I did it and pasted it into a Word document using DocumentsToGo. I then accessed it on a USB connection and pasted it into a message in this forum. I only had 75 Apps and it exceeded the maximum allowed. Here is the last one and the trailer ...

Holy crap John...that's a big list of apps O.o...I tried the BBCode for listables and the coding came out funky when i pasted it from the program so I just did the text as it didn't come out all weird.

Hmm - Let me see if I have an older version hat is not updating - my Listables is not showing BBCode as an option to export.

Can I change my answer? I can't do anything on my phone right now unless wifi is enabled.. This is getting ridiculous.

Sure, or else I can change it for you - what do you want to put it under, no change, little worse or a lot worse?
