Does anyone have this phone on VM?

I'm in a pickle over this phone or the OPV from VM, and I haven't found too many good words (well words at all...) about this phone from VM users. Any insight you could kindly lend to an aspiring HTC WS user? Thanks!

Will it be your first smart phone?

It's OK, but my other handset is a Desire HD so it's a little unfair to compare it to that.

If you're looking for a half decent entry level smart phone, it's perfect (although lack of internal storage is an issue), but if you're gonna be browsing regularly or want to hammer it playing games etc, it's maybe not for you.

Yes, it will be my first smartphone.
But I won't need to load it down with games because I have an iPod touch (But that leaves little reason to have an iPod with this phone, really....)but generally I'd just use facebook and tumblr and games like fruit ninja and puzzles, just time wasters really. Mostly widgets, a few apps, and music.

I've heard reviews that the internal memory eats up ridiculously fast....is there anything to prevent this/adjust this problem?

You can force apps to install to the SD Card, and there's the option of moving some of the current ones on there, but it's sorta, kinda limited.

It's my work phone and as a consequence, I've not got much on there anyway and I still get low space messages.

Are you familiar with ADB (I'm guessing not, but just in case)? It's the Android Debug Bridge and is a way of accessing and changing certain settings on your phone you couldn't via the handset's UI. ADB is part of the Android SDK.

I'm about to head to work, but I'll give you some links and the process when I've got a spare moment later on this evening. :)

(It sounds complicated, but it isn't at all).

I actually do believe I've heard of ADB (probably found it in a google search of some sort) and should be able to figure out what-does-what if and when I get this phone.

Really I'm 90% sold on this phone, it's just the issue of money really, and Black Friday should do the trick for me. (Convincing my parents that a $100, normally $200 phone is worth the money is a different story. Oh, the joys of being a teenager, right? [angsty sigh.]) But space-saving techniques should be great options.

I was just thinking earlier how silly it would have been to sell my 32GB 3rd Gen iTouch to pick this up (It was an offer to my parents originally before I found out about the Black Friday sale) and knowing it has an internal memory of aprox 106MB vs the aprox 29GB on my iPod is ludicrous to give up. I'd rather have both in my pocket than sacrifice my beautiful iPod. I'll just be able to use my iPod for things I could do without the internet on my phone to save space; and delete things off my iPod I rarely use due to the necessity of the internet (like Facebook and Tumblr).

Here's the SDK and the command you need for moving stuff to the SD Card is here.

From Amazon yeah? If you do that, it will be unbranded and will have more space for apps as networks tend to install bloatware on their handsets.

I've a feeling in a few years I'll be on the other end of the conversation you're having with your parents with my son.....

It's on sale from Amazon...???

Aye, don't they do a Black Friday sale around this time of year? I'm sure I saw an advert for it pop up on my FB news feed too. I presumed that's where you were going to get it from.

Ahh, yeah, that'll be fun won't it?

Also thanks for the links! *bookmarked*

I'm sure it will be more fun for him than me cos I'm pretty sure I'll cave relatively easily....

I'm gonna have to look out for Amazon's sales now in case it lends itself cheaper than $100
>I went on Amazon and couldn't find the phone branded under VMU....oh well, walking a few blocks to get a phone is fine to get it instantly.

Well, yano, us American kids are chock-full of trouble, but I'm of the better breed. (Wait who the hell am I trying to impress?)

>It's looking like I'll wind up with the Wildfire; my parents said there's so way we'll be able to get to a Target at midnight, and things $50 or less get bought up by crazy Black Friday shoppers just due to the face that they can resell them for a profit (God forbid someone might actually want a phone to use, right?). My dad is finally coming around to the fact that a more expensive phone means a (generally) higher quality, and especially a $200 phone at half the price. My mother, on the other hand, thinks that $100 is too steep a price. But if I wind up getting money from my grandfather (I'm his only grandchild, he spoils the hell out of me, always has, etc.) which is more than likely, I'll have the $100 right there and then how can my mother complain?

You'd be better off unbranded/SIM Free if you can, it will have less of the network branded apps and therefore more space.

You should know by now though that mothers always find a way of complaining ;)

Aheh it's true.

So I found myself at the Radioshack today, and the Wildfire didn't seem as small as it had the first time I saw it. Having it in my hand felt like it fit well, and I was impressed with the overall build quality.

If all goes well, I should have it by next Friday.

Ok so I've read some reviews I was linked to on another forum (didn't sign up, don't worry! )

And this guy is so frustrated with his Wildfire S that he was ready to throw it against a wall. I'm now really concerned and afraid that I'm going to get this phone on a whim and regret it within a week.

Apparently the keyboard is atrociously small, but I'm only 17 and I have small girly fingers, so should this be a problem for me?
I'm not too concerned with loading my phone down with apps....but I can't possibly stand having a buggy crazy freak-out phone.

I'm worried now.
Buhhhhhhhh....... :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Unless the LG Optimus Slider miraculously goes on sale for $100 or less on cyber monday, I don't know what to do. I don't want to get stuck with a phone I'll regret (HTC), something I want and can't afford (Slider), something I won't be able to get (OPV), or a piece of garbage (Intercept or feature phone Rumor Touch)

Why is this so difficult? ;__;

I'm probably not in the best position to give a definitive yay or nay for the Wildfire S. It's a work phone, it's a perfectly acceptable work phone so I'm not really bothered about it's limited spec and the space issue. I'm 30 and have massive man hands (:p) and the keyboard is small, but I muddle along. It's certainly easier to use in landscape mode and HTC's inbult error correction is second to none (verging on incredible actually). It picks up words you use frequently so learns what it thinks you want to type.

All that being said, it's not my main phone and if it was, it would probably drive me insane.

I've done a bit of digging and it looks as though root is relatively easily attainable for the slider, whereas it's hit and miss for the Wildfire S. If I was unsure about 2 handsets and root was attainable for one and questionable for the other, the rootable handset would win out every time.

You're probably best to pick both up and see which one feels better tbh.

Do either of the places you want to buy from allow a trial period sort of thing?

Oh, I doubt it. Both phones are $200 flat out and I can't afford either, that's how I'd be getting myself the HTC because it'll be half off for the sale.

I wish I could find out Cyber Monday sales ahead of time, but no such luck.
Maybe I can just wait until after Christmas.......
But I just don't want to. I need a new phone and I was so excited to go out and get the fantastic-looking little HTC. Now I'm afraid to get it. I might as well go find out the store's return policy for Black Friday sales.

RadioShack is awesome about phones. If you don't like it or you find it is buggy, bring your receipt, phone and everything that came with it and grab something different. Just make sure you find out what their return policy is and how many days before its non returnable. Ask questions. Anywhere you buy for that matter. Be informed :)

I just ordered this phone for the Black Friday price online from Radio Shacks website:D:D:D:D
No standing in line trying to snag one of the door busters!

I got it I got in line behind like 25 people and all of them wanted the XBOX360 (and there were only two in the store that sold out literally ten seconds after they opened the doors) and I walked up and they had six phones and I was like YAY.
SO YAY.

Cool, gratz!
I ordered mine online, but I couldn't wait lol so I stopped by Best Buy after work (it was after midnight) but they were sold out. This morning I was at Radio Shack at 5am, 6th in line. One ahead of me got one.
I bought one too, and I am playing with it right now :).
The one I have on order I will pass on to my co-worker
