Not for me. OTA came up Mon nite, went thru some motions, ended up at red exclamation. I pulled battery and it rebooted, saying update successful, but still had 2.2. Phone has been working.

Tried all above and got the following:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

--Install from sdcard--
Finding update package--
Opening update package--
Verifying update package--
E: failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted

The file is in the root directory on the SD card. Not in any folder. Named Update.zip.

What now (i've tried everything mentioned above all week)??

Frustrated!

Not sure about your case. Maybe something like a corrupted file maybe? Have you done a factory reset?

I've gotten my phone to update, but I'm noticing that my wifi doesn't want to turn on and requires a reboot to get it working. I had this same problem on Eclair 2.1, which was fixed with Froyo 2.2 update. Anyone else having this problem?

None of this stuff worked for me at all. Are you still trying to get it OTA? Did you try that manual method I mentioned a page back?

I think so... been swamped lately and have about given up on it truthfully

That with both updates?

That's my last resort but I've been wondering whether it's even worth going thru all the trouble of restoring and setting everything up again. The phone's working fine but knowing I don't have the latest is nagging at me! :)

Is it really worth the hassle of a reset?

The WiFi on my updated phone has been nice and stable.

I've got both updates. As for the WIFI issue, I'm not sure if it's a constant issue yet or not. I did the update yesterday evening and only noticed it when I woke up this morning that it couldn't connect. I just got home from lunch and it had no problem connecting. So we'll see...

It took me a couple hours to reset my phone & get it back to the way it was. I downloaded more apps than I had before, without moving any to SD, &.... No "not enough space"! Wonder if it actually was fixed?

That's right. I downloaded the 4.06 file, then renamed it to update.zip, and copied it to the root directory of the SD card. I turned off the phone, then powered up while holding down the volume down key. I don't remember if it kicked off then, or if I had to select Recovery, hit power/volume up when the red triangle screen showed up, then selected Apply sdcard:update.zip. (I think it was the former, but I've been thru it so many times, I was on autopilot.) The 2nd update showed up OTA a few minutes after the final reboot.

Got the OTA 4.06.605.3 notification earlier this week but ignored it and couldn't get it back. Trying this now.

Just Rebooted the phone in HBOOT and it started the update by itself, no need to go into "RECOVERY". Also, I named the ZIP file "update.zip" at first, which didn't work. Naming the ZIP file "update" did work. Update is in progress and I will update as this progresses.

EDIT: This process worked for me. No problems installing 4.06.605.03 through HBOOT (click here for the file I used, thanks to JLR). A couple minutes after the update was done, I got the OTA 4.08.605.02 (~8.7 MB) notification. I wanted to clear my cache again before running this update, but I didn't want to risk never getting the OTA update again, so I went ahead with it. I cleared my cache and deleted some larger programs that I didn't mind temporarily losing before I ran the first update which probably allowed the second one to go through without a hitch. Here's some phone data I took from OS Monitor before I ran the first update:

System: 96% Used
10.1 MB Free

Data: 21.9% Used
597.7 MB Free

Cache: 2.9% Used
192.7 MB Free (App Cache Cleaner told me I had 550 MB Free)

Also, it doesn't seems like I lost any data/apps in process, which is a plus.

Hope this helps.

I installed the ROM of the update over at XDA... I was hoping it would fix the every song skip on Pandora when listening on 3G, but it didn't.. Must be a Pandora issue... Other then that everything seems to be working good, but I was using ROMs with the 2.3.4 since the last OTA push...

So I realized I still have S-OFF, but I'm unrooted and have factory reset the phone not long ago (to fix the 5 vibration issue).

Should the OTA update work? Or do I need to be S-ON and/or flash the stock recovery?

I get the following error when trying to install the OTA update:
assert failed: check_cid(getprop("ro.cid"), "00000000", "11111111".. blah blah
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip (Status 7)

Just a little confused at the moment.

Thanks!

I did the manual update to 4.06 and once complete I got the prompt for 4.08.

I had already freedup phone space and memory, phone space I had 6.5GB, phone mem I had 600MB free, I'm not rooted and have never been.

I just followed mmolitor87's guide but only step 4 here:

http://androidforums.com/incredible...ally-install-gingerbread-ota-s-if-rooted.html pay no attention to the title you don't need to be rooted at all, I have never been.

and it all went well, took a little time but 4.06 updated and then I got prompted for 4.08 from my phone and I udated to that from my phone.

Is the file truly named Update.zip (upper case U)? Try all lower case if it is.

I did exactly what Nsutherl did above - including renaming the file "update" instead of "update.zip", and that did the trick for me.

(note that I was still on 2.2 so needed both updates)

Thanks everyone for the tips!

I was one who reported yesterday that the first update "disappeared" before I could get a chance to install it. It never came back. Now others are reporting the second update if out. I've tried all the tricks mentioned here to get the first update back - checkin, *228, set the date a month ahead, reboot. None of them seemed to work. I'm still waiting for the first update to reappear. Any idea what's going on?

Same here. Help!

Tried naming it just update (without the .zip).

This time it went further but still aborted.

The failure was:

Verifying current system--
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/framework/com.htc.resources.apk". "7cabafc0e726874387577f86320cdcbff4757dab". 9f38439fc426ed368460d28774fc90c945962c28")

Help!

Status 7 means either the zip is corrupt or the file in question has been edited or removed. If you're not rooted, the secondary option is unlikely.

Try downloading the update file again just to be sure.

If all else fails, factory reset and then apply the update. There is another use who has even copied my EPST.apk into his files via root and still gets errors. It may be the only option because of something that went wrong that you can't control.

For those of you who have the disappearing update, click the appropriate link above, rename it to update.zip (.zip being the file extension alone) and place it on the root of your sdcard. Power the phone down, hold volume down + power to boot into hboot and the update should automatically apply. If not, go into recovery and select to run update.zip from sdcard.

If you're on 4.06.605.3 you may need to go into settings/applications and disable fastboot.

For everyone who originally ignored the OTA 6.06.605.3 update and now can't get it back. That happened to me Monday, and I just updated to the newest version of Gingerbread today (6.08.605.2) thanks to JRL and nytroutbum. Go back 1 page and give them a thumbs-up thanks.

1. I've been hearing that there's been spaces issues when updating to the newest build (4.08.605.2, ~8.7 MB), so I cleared my cache using App Cache Clear. I also went through my apps and deleted any larger ones that I either don't use or could live without for a few days. I've heard it helps to uninstall Adobe's updates. I did.

2. Download the update file (4.06.605.3, 87.x MB) by clicking here. Connect your phone to your computer, mount as disk drive, rename the update zip folder to "update", and copy the zip file to your SD Card in the highest level (I've heard it called the root folder?, copy it immediately after you double click on your SD Card icon in Explorer so it's file location is "your SD Card name"\update). Unmount your phone, then power down.

3. Once it's off, hold down the power and volume down buttons until HBHOOT opens. Give it a second once it opens up and it should automatically start the update. Let it roll through it's thing, mine took about 15 minutes and rebooted like 3 times throughout
the process.

4. A few minutes after my phone was back up and running after all the update stuff, I got the OTA Notification for 4.08.605.2 (~8.7 MB). Continue through their OTA installer prompt and just let it ride for ~15 minutes and few reboots. Hopefully, you're greeted with the Successful Update notification when it pops up.

I didn't have to do a factory reset or hard reset and didn't lose any apps/data (except the apps I deleted of course). I did a backup of everything I could before I started, just in case. Good luck and remember to give JRL and nytroutbum on the previous page about half-way down and mmolitor87 right ^^ there a thumbs-up thanks.

EDIT: ^^ mmolitor87 just hit the nail on the head too. Just beat me to it

On step 3, my phone did not kick off the install automatically. I had to choose "recovery" from the hboot menu, was greeted with a red triangle and exclamation point, pressed vol-up and power, and then "update from update.zip" and the update kicked off the way it was supposed to. From this point on everything worked exactly as described here. Thanks again!!

Thank you for trying to help but after following all instructions exactly, still getting the same error (status 7 when "verifying current system".

Not sure if it's significant, but nothing ever happens at the HBOOT screen. Some info flashes on the screen in green letters but not long enough to read. Then I have to go to recovery to attempt. which always aborts.

Oddly, the OTA update message was there this morning. I hit update now but it didn't do anything.

Same here. Help!

Finally got a notification this morning that the update was available. It says it is 4.08.605.2. I thought the first update was 4.06.something? I never got the first one so I don't know what this is. I tried to install it and got the low on memory message. I set the clock ahead one month and now I have it again. Trying to install again.

Oddly, the OTA update message was there this morning. I hit update now but it didn't do anything.

Same here. When I turned my phone on at 4:30am CST, the message appeared that I had a system update available. I clicked on the update button, it counted down from 5 to reboot, once it hit zero, the system update message disappeared with no update or reboot.

Ugh!

Same here. I told it to install. It rebooted and then came up with the low on memory message. I then set the clock ahead one month and the update re-downloaded. This time I checked to see what version it was. It was the 4.08 version. I never got the first 4.06 version. Anyway, once again I told it to install. It counted down to reboot but never rebooted. I cancelled it. Now it is trying yet again. This is frustrating.

Follow the post above just below mine. Clear your cache in recovery. Then try setting your time ahead. If you have any useless apps clear those out also.
