Root [ROM] CyanogenMod 7 Huawei M835

Ok... hey all, new to the forums, not new to modding, but by no means an expert. I've got a couple of finer points I'd like to add, toss around, w/e.

Unless you are up for a ramble, skip on down lol.

I'm testing/tweaking/pushing through several diff ROMs with any compatibility at the moment. Ascend ROMs, U8150 ROMs, etc. Having tested Mate35 (Thanks PG, I tweaked it to my personal taste and is my permanent backup ROM!), CM7 that Uptnolaboy uploaded, and PG's build, so far PG is definitely in the running for my #1. I have CWM 3.0.0.5 on my partition, and saved backups for those 3 so far, just for comparing/flipping. This build runs like a dream. Wifi is only a consideration when I'm at home, which is rare since I work 60+ hrs a week, so it does the job 99% of the day. I flip back to my Mate35 @ home for updating or tweaking.

That having been rambled off---
TL;DR --- I play a lot with ROM flashing lol

I spend a lot of idle time at work, etc where I could possibly help. The big two questions I got are for you, PG.

1. Is it possible to look @ or compare wifi settings while ON the phone? I ask cuz I can swap pretty liberally between the 3 roms I mentioned on the fly, so a) if I can and b) know what I'm looking for, I might be able to throw some data your way if it would help you? I'm no modding expert, but I know my way around file structures and such.

2. Is CWM 3.0.0.5 for Ascend as high as we can safely go? I know theres a 3.6 or something out now, and I dunno if it was safe to flash over as my new recovery.img since it's not a M835 recov in the first place.

Sorry for the long post XD tryin to be helpful and cram before im off to work and cant type ALL that lol!

actually CWM is up to 5.0.2.6 or so now lol and I have one build for the M860 on the wiki. its an unofficial build and I doubt koush will ever do an official update for it, tho I wont cry if he is nice n does. ;)

I have a compiling, booting once n awhile .32 src, as in 2.6.32.9, whats the stock kernel version and does anyone know what wifi chip the M835 uses?? bcm 4319 or 4329?

I'm looking right now LOL. Btw, I don't know if this will help, but on a whim I flashed the CM 7.2 ROM you helped collaborate on for the Ascend. Changed the density to 120, and everything so far works, wifi, text, cam, etc. Its still reading M860 obviously but no probs!

Ok so just found out that my phone wont do landscape. Alos i can recieve MMS but cant send?

Everything else works great! THANKS PG

is there a trick to get wifi to work? I'm doing this on my friends huawei, I have an evo that i've rooted and flashed a bazillion roms to so i'm very comfortable in this area... just not sure if I have to update prl's or anything once cm7 is flashed..?? i see some saying wifi works, but i get an error on this phone.. thanks..

for all intents n purposes the ascend ROM should work fully. With the actual M835 port, more may need to be done, but the build with the M860 kernel n wifi module 'should' work. As why it does on some n not on others is beyond me lol.

It does, I run off the 7.2 build off the wiki, and it works fine, wifi and all. I can only surmise the problem is as you said earlier with the difference in kernel builds, cuz everything else suggests it should be fine lol

Do you have a link to the one with the m860 kernel and wifi module? Thank you.

This may or not be a n00b question PG, but have you looked into either flashing the 2.6.32.9 kernel after porting, or testing QPST? Just a thought, may be pointless XD

testing in OPST?

and if it wont work with the build, it wont work flashing it alone. ;)

LMAO I did say it was n00bish

QPST is Qualcomm Product Support Tools. Specifically in regards to addressing the wifi antenna/chip. I don't know if it would help or not, but I know when I used to mess with my old Razr I would fiddle with several programs because of the hardware. Android may be too advanced for doing it that way though, to be fair XD

Yea I know what it is, but never used it for anything but flashing a phone for another carrier lol

Touche, ok well scratch that then. I wasn't sure it would be helpful anyway...but didn't know if I hadn't tried lol

rofl fair enough. I remember there being a wifi module on it, but it's been a long time since I've used it too. Might e worth a try anyway.

ok...another idea... since I dunno how much time youve had, RL busy, etc. I saw a provisioning guide not long ago for sprint evo users to bring their Evo to Metro. Yes it;s a diff phone type, but i thought it might be an insight since it does involve provisioning the wifi/mms settings? If it doesn't help, nvm XD

Hey Guy's I'm a noob and I've been doing my research and still can't figure this out. When I flash the asend cm7 Tom to my m835 I can't find the screen density option in cynogens display setting. So some help with that would be greatly appreciated. And another's. Thing is that I'm running the m835cm7 right now and it seems like its eating my battery up all crazy even with my battery saving apps. And last but not least what Is a prl. Oh yeah and what does mate 35 do for your phone?I know these are all noob questions but I've been reading and reading for weeks and I assume from all the drugs I did in my drugging days i can't absorb Jack shit!so can someone please help me out here? PG helped me with some shit a couple weeks ago and to that i thank you PG .and if anyone has any suggestions on what i should do to my phone im more than all ears please please please someone answer these noobish questions for me. And whoever does thank you in advance.

Hey i am a noob to all of this. BUT can some one please give me step my step instructions on how to install the port of playfulgod into my Huawei m835 i've been wanting to for a long time and i know that wifi and mms dont work. Thanks in advance.

Okay I factory reset wiped the caches ass...put a fresh cm7 daiper on and my camera screen is blank n my screen rotation does what it wants

DISCLAIMER: IAM NOR RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGES YOU MAY INCCURE, IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING THEN DONT INSTALL THESE ROMS.

I just got CM7.2 (Gingerbread 2.3.5) working perfectly on my Huawei M835, Wifi works right out of the box, however the screen resolution required a quick fix.

WHAT YOU NEED

M835 Already rooted, If not rooted.. please use Gingerbreak to Root your Device.
ROM Manager
CM7.2 ASCEND ROM 09132011 DOWNLOAD (EMAIL ME DM47021@HOTMAIL.COM FOR LINK.. WONT LET ME POST IT HERE
(yes, it is a Huawei Ascend rom.. i have tested this and run it on my phone. Wifi works.)

Install like you would any other rom
Wipe data/Factory Restore
Advanced--> Wipe Dalvik Cache
Wipe Battery Stats
Mounts and Storage--> Format Cache
Install Zip from sdcard-->Choose zip from sdc.. select the rom you just downloaded
install rom..
after install stay in the clockworkmod recovery
Advanced-->Fix Permissions
Then reboot system now

once you have booted into your new Gingerbread system, enable wifi.

Next you need to download App Brain.. its like the android market.
search for LCD Density for root.. its free, download and install that.
set LCD density to 110. reboot method should be Kill

there ya go, now you still need to re-install Gapps..
and install through the rom manager..

its kind of a pain, but you have to set the screen density everytime you reboot..

let me know how this works.. :)

WHATS NOT WORKING,
- Rotation.

Also you need to download Metroff to get mms to work again..
i have the link to that aswell

Funny thing I did that last night well not exactly like that I had happened already also u might wanna add u need metroff...but since I had gapps as soon as rebooted it made me set up my account...but does ur screen rotation work in the browser? That and my Google widget are shot. Also after I charge myphone my light at the top turns pink and stays on other than that everything is fine

I havent gotten rotation to work yet, still looking for a fix, You are right, you need metroff, if anyone needs it, just email me for the link. as far as the pink light, mine does it too.. the rom isnt pefect, but it is faster, wifi is working and it is very stable. any updates or fixes i find i will post here
