Help Dumb Question..Is there a difference between shutting down and re-start....from re-booting??

well a battery pull is an unexpected shutdown for the device. and could eventually hurt something. so its better to properly shut it down and swap batteries

Yeah see whenever you shutdown, the system calls to sync all i/o writes to the nand memory and unloads everything so that the shutdown can be as safe as possible. Battery pulls can potentially cause data corruptions regardless of what filesystem you are on(it's just more likely to happen on ext2 or any non-journaled filesystem!!) plus its just hard on the phone and internals!

and you can notice how a battery pull doesnt save data if your using no-frills cpu control. cause if your using that app and your overclocked, then you pull the battery and reboot, no-frills will give you a notification saying "unexpected shutdown" and you will have to reapply your frequencies.

Yea, I've noticed that a couple of times with set cpu when the phone gets locked up and have to do a battery pull!
