Time to upgrade

Judging by the lack of activity lately in this forum I think its safe to say weve done all we can do with the optimus and Im jonesing for some modding hahaha

Question is, how good is it going to be. We are using what they call a training android phone, heck, this is our first android phone. We're all becoming more experienced and trying out new things. I think that the most we can now do is ICS at the moment. After that. There may only be new prls or new tweaks for kernel or camera or something like that. We've basically covered up many things of the OM.
 
Yeah im sorta on the same page. I've had this phone since February (after getting rid of my iPhone 3G) and its had a good run. I want my next phone to be a Nexus S (not really liking the Galaxy nexus' form factor) or an LG Esteem.

But im glad to say that this phone opened the android experience for me, and I plan to keep this as a device that taught me something.
 
Well I've come to the same conclusion. I'm still trying to hold off on the Esteem until I see the price come down and there are some custom roms for it.


That being said if I get the extra money together before I see a custom rom, I'm upgrading anyway. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my M but feel it really is time to move on.
 
although i would much prefer a more featured phone thats faster and supports things that the optimus doesnt, i havent made a change to my phone in quite a while. i got it to where i wanted it: fast, reliable, everything running smoothly. although i am currently attempting to get ICS on this phone, if it doesnt happen, i am happy with what it is. modding is fun, but isnt the goal to make it what you want. sure we have probably reached the limit of what the optimus can do, but for me, thats enough lol, besides i cant afford an Esttem right now.. and development for that phone is at a standstill as far as i know.
 
The more the marry errr lol we need more devs with lg esteems lol we got a oneclick root but no recovery yet, playful god has made a kernel that gets up to 1.4 ghz but in tell we get recovery we can't use it :-(

So let me great this straight. It took kernel tweaking first than recovery. That's pretty weird to me lol. And I think not many devs are working on metro phones. The hype of these new phones from other carriers are really bringing me in. Its like yes I wish for an esteem but at the same time, newer phones come out in days. So its like buy the latest android version phone and watch people work on it for years.

Brandon, love your posts and insight on most things but I'd have to disagree on deving for Metro phones. From what I have seen on this forum and various others Metro deving is about even with the other carriers.

As far as the latest Android phones coming out, trying to stay ahead of technology these days is a waste of time imo. Most of it is outdated in a three to six month span at this point.

The M was actually my first LG phone and I haven't been disappointed by it. If the Esteem is a nice model(and from what I have read it is) then I'm going to be getting one at some point. It comes down to which comes first the money of the recovery/custom rom and from the looks of it money seems to be the front runner,lol/

Lol. Don't worry, ima get one of my friends to hook you up :3. He said the esteem might have a discount during Xmas. 50-100 tops. And the m is my first phone. I've learned so much from it from using an app, creating a theme in UOT, using adb to help me flash recovery. Rooting of course, and taking apart certain files. I got enough money for the esteem. But I feel like, I can't let go of this lil Guy :(

I know the feeling, even when I do grab the Esteem, I'm still gonna always have mad love and a soft spot for my M,lol.

Would love $50 or $100 more off the Esteem then X-Mas would be complete for me :D

I'm not gonna lie. If I ever do upgrade, ima do those cliche things you see in movies. Playing on the nexus then when its time for bed instead of the nexus my optimus is the alarm clock. Ima cry >_<… Why couldn't there be an LG Optimus M V2?!?!?! I'd buy things like that D: sooooo heartbreaking for me to leave this phone.
 
haha! just reading this is making me miss my ascend! lmao...i learned alot on the ascend and took it to the next level on the optimus...im planning on getting the esteem soon and then the motorola xoom tablet...im just gonna have a whole family i guess! A very happy family indeed! :D

I'm not sure I want the Esteem as LG ****ed up on the M. It never worked as stock -- random reboots and the screen goes off at times. The idiots at metro tried to call these "features". WTF? Yeah, your phone suddenly doesn't work. Is that a feature designed to make me laugh or tease my brain? WTF? After changing phones more than 10 times, I realized this model sucks.

Rooting and ROMing helped a bit, but I got a new set of problems and compromises with each ROM. I'm sick of this phone. The one developer I donated 20 dollars to bailed!

What can I buy that I can put on the Metro network and run CM7 from CM7's own website? I appreciate all the hard work, but my phone has been shit from day one.

The only good thing about this phone is that I learned new things, met cool people, and caused me to want to learn to develop ROMs -- on a new phone.
