Maybe it's just a matter of perspective. What comes easy to you may not to others. It's just as easy to politely ask someone to read or re-read - or even not respond, let another community member who's already made the mistakes help them out - than it is to rag on people for being in a hurry.
The first rule of rooting is read, read, read and then read some more, before acting - and if things go wrong, go back and read again.
The second rule of rooting is when trouble hits, don't panic. Read, then post.
See? Easy to say without reporting or getting upset with people. And easy to let others say it for you, don't you agree?
You really need to read a thread before just flashing and posting.
That was the FIRST thing I posted. He took offense to it, like SO MANY that dont read a damn thing do. If theres not a picture, Im sure most of these people would be LOST.
My criticism was specific to wiping your nose type comments. Maybe you and I could immediately translate to that data and cache actions - others are new at it.
We were all new at this stuff once - you too, me too, them too. No need to hand hold everyone, no need to be cold either. Easy does it, that's my idea.
Perhaps it was - but I don't think a rom thread is really heading in the right direction if it comes to that - we have a whole Lounge forum for horseplay.
Hope this helps!
It doesnt really help to be honest. I makes things worse for those of us that HAVE the ability to read and learn. The Bolt is my first and only foray into androids thus far, and my sign up date was two days before my bolt was in my hands. I know what I do because I READ BEFORE I do anything. You can check all of my posts, I have absolutely ZERO problems helping those in need, I have HUGE issues with holding peoples hands.
"If youre not smart enough to help yourself, Im not bored enough to help you"
Thats something EVERYONE should take as a lesson to be honest. Why should those of us that HAVE the knowledge coddle those that arent smart enough to read and figure out possible issues with the ROM. Ive posted it in this thread and many others MANY times. Its not that I have issues with "being Nice", because Ive been quite nice to many people. Its not that I have issues helping the noobs, because like you pointed out, weve ALL been there. But the one question that every single moderator that Ive asked this question has completely ignored is this:
Where do those of us that help draw the line?
It gets frustrating when stupid questions(yeah, I know the old saying of theres no such thing as a stupid question, but this is a bonafide LIE) are asked. By stupid questions, I directly mean the questions that asked when the answer is RIGHT in front of them(Literally). I could understand if he was having an off the wall issue that I could help him with. Im always down for those, but when I JUST explained it to someone else, and then he posts that hes having the issue and doesnt know how to fix it, thats just straight up laziness, and yes, that becomes a stupid question.
The problem with ignoring questions is that they have a tendency to muddy the thread, just like drama does. They spam the thread with the same question over and over and over, never taking two seconds to read. There needs to be repercussions for those that do this, just like there has been for those that tell them to read or go on and flame them. Things are tilted in a way that these type of people over run a forum and drastically kill the intelligence level, and those that are able to help, stop wanting to because theyre sick and tired of the same questions.
Im one of these people.
So you tell me, what am I supposed to do, REALISTICALLY, with these people when telling them to read the thread is far too much or complicated for them?
Im honestly not trying to start trouble, Im really not, what I am wanting though is BALANCE. Those that dont read and spam threads with questions need to have some sort of action taken against them across ALL forums. This is a problem on every board Ive been on.
