News flash! Just got a notice on my phone asking if I'd like to download 4.08.605.2 again, and I said yes, so it's slowly downloading 87.7 MB. Not sure why it couldn't have just kept the original download even though the install failed. Will try to install again when the download is finished.

I finally backed up what I could and did a factory reset. I immediately was upgraded to 4.08.605.2 (took about 10 - 15 minutes).

I'm speculating, but it may be that some of my apps were interfering with the upgrade since a number were missing when the dust settled. I just downloaded the ones I needed again, and all is good. I kept most of my data too.

Following the download mentioned above, I clicked install, and absolutely nothing happened. The opportunity to run the update disappeared again, and I'm still on 2.2 and "up to date."

I'm thinking of doing what MoebusNet did, since I don't have much info that needs to be backed up. I can sync my contacts and copy data files from my PC. Question: Following the factory reset, was the update really ready to go right away? Did you have to initiate it or did it start on its own?

Haven't tried the factory reset yet, but one more time I set the date still farther into the future, did the checkin, and got a new invitation to update. Clicked Install now and a 10-second countdown to reboot started. When the countdown reached zero, nothing happened - no reboot.

In my case, as soon as I did the factory reset the phone went through the menu to re-setup the phone. It wasn't as involved as the first time it was activated, Verizon already had my info. The phone rebooted a couple of times and volunteered the OTA update; I didn't have to go looking for it. Data: I don't keep a lot of data for applications (example: games) so if it was missing I wasn't fussed. My essential information stayed intact. Best of luck!

I just finished the factory reset and installation of 2.3.4. The process went quite smoothly and pretty much as described above. The OTA update was indeed volunteered - I didn't have to go looking for it. My purchased apps were retained, but many free apps are missing. Will need to find them and install them. I will probably ignore some that I didn't use very much.

After two failed updates last week, and a failed attempt this week (every time it failed to restart), just had it update with no issues just now.

Just remembered that I had backed up all my apps with an app called App Backup Reinstall. It worked just fine and brought back all the apps I wanted to bring back.

All of the various doc, pdf and jpg files that I had copied from my PC to a folder on the SD card are still present after the update.

So, is there anyone else who is on stock, unrooted 2.2, who has NOT recieved the OTA update? Or am I the only one?

I have 10 friends with this phone, and all of them have recieved the update. Are they still rolling it out?

Does anyone know or have an idea of how often or how many times the OTA update may be pushed to your phone? Received it twice and disappeared twice. Thanks

So I got the update, downloaded it, and my phone got stuck on the red triangle with the phone got stuck on the red triangle with the phone and literally nothing else happened.

Anyone else have this problem?

about 20 minutes -- I called HTC technical support, and they told me that if I see the red triangle with the exp point, that is wrong.

Did they tell me the wrong thing? Is the red triangle normal to see while updating?

Not normally, if you issue the attempt from the settings menu while the phone is still ON, it should power down, go to the HTC Incredible screen, then proceed with a couple of green arrows and a proceeding status bar at the bottom.
If you did the update from the SD card when booting into HBOOT, it should do the same thing. The red triangle with the exclamation point I believe is the entry point to the recovery. You can try installing the update there by holding both volume buttons, as long as the update is still on the SD card.

Got the low memory error the first time it tried to install 4.08.605.2, then tried to clear off some apps and caches and simply waited. I did not want to both with any clock changes or whatnot. About three days later 4.08.605.2 came back, asking to reinstall again. This time it did the ten second reboot countdown and froze. Hard rebooted the phone and still had 4.06.605.3. Like clockwork, 4.08.605.2 came back a third time yesterday. I gave it another shot. Still locking up when it attempts to reboot. No good. Still have 4.06.605.3.

Honestly though, the phone seems to work fine without 4.08.605.2. I don't really want to factory reset it just to get a patch that makes no visible difference. Is there any real pressing reason I should be trying to get it?

Depends on your needs. I know I couldn't really care less about any of the problems/fixes, but other people would have a major issue with it. The main issues the update fixes are:
1) the apps installed on the sd card disappear (can also be fixed by reinstalling the apps, or moving them back to the phone, and then to the sd card again).
2) The market shows sprint apps, and not verizon ones. The system information shows the screen size as 4.3" instead of 3.8" (this doesn't affect anything in real life).
3) fixes some blue tooth issues
4) location nag on reboot.

And probably a couple of other things. I know I wasn't really bothered by any of the issues when I was running the stock versus of the ota.

I received the OTA notice and got the same as you. After reading here I tried the myriad suggestions to force it and try to install (changing the date, clearing cache, making more space, etc, etc). I can now bring up the OTA notice at will but it will not install. Seems like I need to factory reset.

I have given up. I don't think it's worth it from what I hear. My phone works as it did for the last year and a half, good battery life and lots of info I don't want to either risk losing or take the time to get back to how it is now, just to have the latest.

If there was a compelling reason to update to GB, I suppose I would.

I've received the update a few times now and have the same issue where my phone never restarts. I'll continue to try installing it when it pops up but I really don't care if i get the update. My phone is working fine and I'm due for an upgrade in January. I'll just get something new and better than.

After running the 2.3.4 update for several days, I'm quite happy with it, but I haven't noticed many changes. One feature I do like is the fast startup from a powered down state. Much faster than the old, and very little battery power seems to be used while it's powered down, even though I understand some small amount of power is being used in that state.

Speaking of battery power, I think it's better now, but I don't have any quantitative data to prove that.

Doing the factory reset was a blessing in disguise. Because all my screens got erased, I had to build them again, but this time I did some logical organizing of the icons. My old setup was pretty much a haphazard random collection of icons.

I haven't noticed any change in the battery one way or the other. Still is as bad. This is my second stock battery. I'm thinking of getting the big boy while I wait out the results of the Nexus launch. Upgrade date 12/28/11, so I might just wait until summer

Tried to use my phone with Bluetooth in my Toyota RAV4 today for the first time since updating to Gingerbread. Didn't work. However, when I looked at the phone once I was finished driving, I noticed that there was an outstanding request from the car to pair with the phone. As soon as I entered the magic password 0000 on the phone everything worked again.
