I've been toying with the idea of building a rom. I need to do a lot of research first.
If you don't mind me asking, where did you learn?

I'm just sort of lost as where to begin, hell, I'm clueless! But I want to learn. :D
 
I'm right there with you. Lots of people here would like to learn, we need a sensei

I like when devs use the google code and svn so I can physically see what has been changed and kind of figure things out that way
 
i am far from a dev. I just mess around with changing themes out, believe me i wish i knew programming but alas i do not. if anyone would like to join me along the way we could leran this together. I have been messing around with themeing over other roms, just by going through the files reading them and changing stuff up yourself you will learn a lot.

I'd hate to say go check out xda-developers they have a great list of resources. I say that because i have a huge dis-stain for that community. mainly the moderators there. I moved to this community after being their for a couple years.

Rom building is something I've always wanted to try, but (what looks like everyone else) I don't know enough. I too find xda to be off putting.
 
oh lol one more thing i am currently doing a mod of decks-1.3 changing it to be a clone of 4.0. Progress will begin after i smoke this cigarette

I've already got a slight grip on themeing. Mainly notification bar image mods. I haven't messed with .xml's yet. Smali and backSmali are complete gibberish still. I've had to take a little hiatus from themeing this summer, been uber busy with work.

I would love to get the ball rolling. Maybe I'll hit up Tommytomato and see if he'll share where he began, maybe hook us up with some info. :)

thank god im not the only one. not to try and start a hate war but people get to touchy and extremely defensive. was banned once for sticking up for another person and endded up talking down to one of the mods. well the outcome was i was banned for a full month
 
sounds to me like there is still alot of evo owners that want to build. I've been doing alot of research lately mainly beculaue I want to build one specifically for metro off a newer base.
