Help Strange, screwed up VM support

My Triumph is proving to be troublesome. I can't keep it activated. I activate it and the activate icon stays in the message bar at the top. When I reboot the phone I get a message overlaying the home screen saying I need to activate. Up till today everything worked, I just kept getting this message. Now I can't connect via 3G to anything, I get a can't connect or server not found message. Phone calls seem to work OK.

VM's support is a bit flaky, I have called them 3 times, the first time I just got a run-a-round by some lady that must have been new cause she knew nothing. The 2nd time I was escalated to tech. support and after explaining thing several times I was told tech support would get back to me in 24 hours. I never heard from them so I called tonight and was told they had a "investigative meeting about my problem" and they would call me within 4 days WTF. So what am I suppose to do????? Now I see why it's unlimited, you can't use it so, how could you use it up????:)

I decided to switch back to my LG Optimus V till they call. I started to do so online and after putting in the S/N and hitting next I get this message, what does it mean:eek:
  • Are you sure you want to swap phones?

    Data Packs and Downloads (VirginXL) are not available on the phone you want to switch to. So if you make the switch, you'll lose any remaining MB of data and you won't be able to sign up for a new Data Pack. Also, you won't be able to use Downloads (Virgin XL) or purchase ringtones, games, or graphics.
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Does this mean that my unlimited data, web and messaging will evaporate if I switch phones? Especially the line in red, what are they saying?:confused:

Thanks

When I got my MT, I had 3G/activation issues as well, but I tracked that down to a faulty phone. I wasn't able to fully activate the first MT phone, and I never got a 3G signal or any data (though the 1x icon flashed briefly during the activation process).

I emailed VMU Social Care and they overnight shipped me a replacement phone which arrived today. The new one works fine without any issue, and I'm rooting and installing CM7 on it right now.

I also re-swapped to my old Optimus V after I gave up on the faulty MT, and I got the same message. In my case, I had mis-typed the phone's serial number under the battery. Please try it again, carefully, and see if that fixes your issue. The VM "Swap Phones" link should recognize your Optimus V by its serial number after you enter it correctly.

VMU Social Care is the group of people who handle users bitching on Twitter or Facebook about their phones or the service. I think they're American (or not, they speak English well) so it's easier to work with them. My calls to the Indian phone center were very unhelpful.

Wow, that beats the -beep- out of standard support. 3 emails and I have a replacement phone on the way. Thanks for the tip, it paid off ....hope the phone is the problem.

When I get the new phone will the apps I have installed on the old phone and moved to the SD card be recognized by the new phone by simply installing the SD card from the old phone or do they have to be installed on the new phone?

You will have to reinstall them. When you move apps to the sd card, it doesn't actually move the whole thing. If you make a nandroid or use titanium it's pretty easy if you had a lot of apps.

EDIT: If you have a custom recovery (CWM) you can make a nandroid and when you get the new phone you can put on the recovery and flash the nandroid and you are back where you were beforehand.

Just a tip, WHENEVER a company says "We'll call you back." It really means "**** off, re up your time, and keep the problem, cause we wont call you back."

While probably true much of the time, this is quite a broad generalization. VM has had great customer service for many of the people here who have had issues.

Is your phone rooted? If so, just install titanium backup and back it up to the SD card, when you get the new one do the same, just re-install everything.
