I don't want to hear anymore people defend VZW
"but come on guyz! best service ev3r! they can do w/e fonez they want! they don't care!"
Die.
Verizon exec's should collectively sit on the devour.
I do agree with you to an extent. Defending VZW with blind fanboyism, kind of like people do Apple, is a little disheartening. But this is Apple and we are discussing a device that is going to be on their network here. VZW has to come up and a lot of the folks here are on the network because it has such a large calling range.
In my area I can use Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile AND Sprint and it all works pretty well. There are small pockets on each carrier that suck, but I assume that is the case anywhere (I live in Tennessee, just outside of Nashville).
HOWEVER, since we are talking about the Incredible and we hope it will be coming to Verizon, we have also drifted onto some other conversations. Mostly that of people getting an Eris or Droid to hold them over until the Incredible or whatever it might be called is actually released.
I have played extensively with the Eris and the Droid both. One of my good friends has the Eris and my girlfriend has the Droid (both of whom work at Verizon and have ZERO inside info, most Verizon employees know less than we do). So, let me tell all of you what to expect if you pick one of these up in the meantime:
The Eris - It's a great phone. Feels very nice in the hand, has a great touch screen and seems very responsive. The SenseUI really makes the phone great. That, sadly, is where it stops. The phone is very weak. It has such little power that the little guy seemed to chug doing very basic stuff. It could be Android 1.5, but it could also be the lackluster specs. I would have got an Eris and held out for a 2.0 or 2.1 update, if it wasn't for the paltry specs.
The Droid - Again, great phone. Well... great smartphone. It is easier to get on the internet than it is to make a phone call on this phone. Don't even get me started on what happens if you hit a button on accident when you are trying to hang up. Ugh. The phone is ugly, it is boxy, it is heavy and it is bulky, but it feels great in the hand. I know, it sounds weird. The phone is far more powerful and has more than enough aftermarket options to keep the ubergeeks satisfied. The Droid's touchscreen can be frustrating at times, especially after how well the Eris screen works. Many people have said it and I'll say it again, the Droid feels very well put together. If it wasn't made by Motorola, in whom I have no faith, I'd have one.
Basically, neither of those phones can hold a candle to the Incredible... even if it only has 256mb of RAM. It doesn't come close to the Desire or Nexus One (who I presume will be more powerful based on numerous links and information). Neither of those phones will sate your urge if you truly want something cutting edge and new. You can associate yourself with Android and appreciate the neat features, but that's about it. I know that waiting sucks, but settling does, too.
