Oh. Thank you for correcting me. Does Vodafone have any contacts with carriers in the states?

You're welcome. Vodafone owns a large percentage of Verizon. 45% if this wiki is correct.

Vodafone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Even with that in mind. In my opinion, I still don't think that statement means anything with regards to Verizon and the new HTC devices.

I'm still hopeful since we have seen a video of the Incredible with the VZW splash screen and the recent FCC filing.

Well, that little bit of news just b*tch slapped me across the face. I guess the HTC roadmap leaked a while back that had TMobile water-marked all over it was true. This goes to show you that TMobile is banking on having the best devices while they improve their network.

I am still sticking to my theory of the Incredible being the cousin of the Desire/Bravo. I just hope the specs don't change, just the casing. I could careless about the red backing, if it comes with it, I just want the new Sense UI and all the other original specs it was leaked with excludin the 256MB of RAM. They gotta add more to the bosom of the Lady In Red.

I don't want to hear anymore people defend VZW

"but come on guyz! best service ev3r! they can do w/e fonez they want! they don't care!"

Die.

Verizon exec's should collectively sit on the devour.

I do agree with you to an extent. Defending VZW with blind fanboyism, kind of like people do Apple, is a little disheartening. But this is Apple and we are discussing a device that is going to be on their network here. VZW has to come up and a lot of the folks here are on the network because it has such a large calling range.

In my area I can use Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile AND Sprint and it all works pretty well. There are small pockets on each carrier that suck, but I assume that is the case anywhere (I live in Tennessee, just outside of Nashville).

HOWEVER, since we are talking about the Incredible and we hope it will be coming to Verizon, we have also drifted onto some other conversations. Mostly that of people getting an Eris or Droid to hold them over until the Incredible or whatever it might be called is actually released.

I have played extensively with the Eris and the Droid both. One of my good friends has the Eris and my girlfriend has the Droid (both of whom work at Verizon and have ZERO inside info, most Verizon employees know less than we do). So, let me tell all of you what to expect if you pick one of these up in the meantime:

The Eris - It's a great phone. Feels very nice in the hand, has a great touch screen and seems very responsive. The SenseUI really makes the phone great. That, sadly, is where it stops. The phone is very weak. It has such little power that the little guy seemed to chug doing very basic stuff. It could be Android 1.5, but it could also be the lackluster specs. I would have got an Eris and held out for a 2.0 or 2.1 update, if it wasn't for the paltry specs.

The Droid - Again, great phone. Well... great smartphone. It is easier to get on the internet than it is to make a phone call on this phone. Don't even get me started on what happens if you hit a button on accident when you are trying to hang up. Ugh. The phone is ugly, it is boxy, it is heavy and it is bulky, but it feels great in the hand. I know, it sounds weird. The phone is far more powerful and has more than enough aftermarket options to keep the ubergeeks satisfied. The Droid's touchscreen can be frustrating at times, especially after how well the Eris screen works. Many people have said it and I'll say it again, the Droid feels very well put together. If it wasn't made by Motorola, in whom I have no faith, I'd have one.

Basically, neither of those phones can hold a candle to the Incredible... even if it only has 256mb of RAM. It doesn't come close to the Desire or Nexus One (who I presume will be more powerful based on numerous links and information). Neither of those phones will sate your urge if you truly want something cutting edge and new. You can associate yourself with Android and appreciate the neat features, but that's about it. I know that waiting sucks, but settling does, too.

I'm losing my reasons to wait. As much as I don't like the Droid for many of the reasons mentioned above, it DOES have a 3.7" screen, it DOES have to ability to be safely rooted to run at 970mhz (or less for the squeamish), it DOES or will have 2.1, and I love the ability to dictate texts via voice (okay, that is an app and not exclusive to Droid). What is the drawback? It's ugly, only has HD quality capture vs DVD quality, and no Sense UI. The video capture is no big deal to me, Sense UI is becoming less of a big deal and ugly? well, there's no helping that.

I kind hate how Verizon is making the Droid the only option and pushing it down everyone's throats because of lack of options. I also hate how people are saying, quit your whining you have the Droid here and pushing it down our throats. Seems to me that the Droid is the ONLY option Verizon is giving us. By the time something new is released it will almost be November, one year from the date the Droid was released with no other options. Even if something launches in June, that's almost half a year and only 4 android devices released, two of which are the Droid and Eris.

I'm seriously considering switching to T-Mobile. I can then get the N1 RIGHT NOW and probably the Bravo/Desire in March. I was researching some of the sites that trace drop calls and while Verizon is still best, T-Mobile & AT&T are about the same but of course w/T-Mobile I'll get unlimited talk and data for $99 for a 2 line family plan..saving what? $45 or so/month over VZW? Screw dat!

Okay, I might have gotten the plan price too low (Even More Unlimited Family Plan doesn't seem to include web). Anybody got an idea on the price?

I wonder what TMobile's coverage is here in the sticks?

There is one up-side to TMo. They will always have the best of Android (especially form HTC).

And a down side I don't get T-mobile where I live... damn you T-mobile for not having coverage, damn you AT&T for not having coverage here, damn you Sprint for not having good signal here and not improving it, and damn you Verizon for haveing awesome coverage and bending us over Ha-ha. I think I hit all the main carriers

Damn them all for not matching the Europe/Asia 3G spectrum. If the US was UMTS 900/2100MHz, you could grab an unlocked Desire the day it comes out and drop your carrier's SIM card in. End of story.

I just think a lot of people are losing their confidence because they didn't hear any news this week, but what were you expecting?

Sure, there may have been an outside shot that there was going to be news, but that was very SMALL chance.

We got the FCC filing last week, news has to come, but not sure why people are so down that it did not come this week.

The only option? Seriously? I mean I guess its the only option if you don't count the Eris, or Devour (this month), Or Nexus One (end of next month/early April) or Incredible or the Vphone. But except for those yeah only 4 and nothing till november. Thanks for such a well researched and accurate post.

People damn Verizon, but I think they forget that they are rather new to offering Android. Historically Verizon has much better devices over all than other carriers, better network, and better support. I could run over my phone with a car and walk into the store and get a new one. Who else does that? Truth is you get what you pay for and Verizon is proof of that. The only other carrier that even is close is Sprint and they have a horrible phone selection, questionable support, and less coverage.

Sorry while I understand people are frustrated that Verizon only offers the Droid (lame) and the Eris (old) they are documented as getting the Nexus which is the best device out right now.

So why all the fuss?

Because some people insist that a carrier must live up to internet rumors. People got their hearts set (a little too much) on the Bravo and were crushed when it was Europe only for now. Since they won't blame themselves for believing rumors it must be Verizon's fault! They want to act like Verizon officially announced a phone and then didn't deliver.
Short of launching a new top of the line phone every month for the rest of the year some wont be happy.
