Can't Find Samsung Extended Battery Anywhere

I can't find any Samsung brandextended capacity batteries (2600 mAh) batteries to buy anywhere. Lots of sites have them for sale -- until you try to buy, then you find that they're out of stock. They're not on the Samsung website anymore. VerizonWirless doesn't have them. Is the phone being discontinued?

Note: I'm not interested in buying a Brand X battery. I've tried them before with other phones. Some are good, but most are crappy knockoffs. There's no way to know what you're buying, so I prefer to pay for the originals.
 
Picked up an extended battery and back door through Amazon.

Had it for a week or so now, makes the charge MUCH more usable. I can actually use the phone without planning my day around charge stations. SOOOOO much better.

Bummed that my Seidio surface case is now unusable. May try to mod the case to let the fat battery back just hang out. Wacky that to get a good case from Seidio, I need to see which phones they actually provide the case for. Like it's not hard enough to pick a new phone without that variable in the calculus.

I've been to the Samsung site. They are so proud of their "slim" phone. Just totally missed the boat on battery life.
 
I tried to buy this battery and the back also, but was unable to find it at Verizon. The Verizon telephone rep called Samsung and found that they had discontinued the battery. Unfortunately, the regular battery life borders on unacceptable.

UPDATE: I bought the extended hyperion battery from Amazon and it allows my phone to last through the day. The trade-off is the larger size of the phone and the somewhat flimsy battery door that requires a case to protect. The weight and size of the phone have increased but it is now usable for an entire day.
 
I will say that the official extended battery is huge...it practically doubles the thickness of the phone. I really wish I had not gotten mine. I'm happy with the battery life but not the size of the phone. I am hoping to maybe find a higher capacity battery that still uses the standard battery door
 
Just bought this battery from that techie warehouse website. Do I have to do anything special with this battery like drain it and recharge it a couple times?

I have had it for a few weeks and it is great. It took near a month to get it, but it wasn't their fault - it kept getting pushed back by the supplier.

Not sure if folks are aware of this, but the Samsung Continuum & Samsung DROID Charge use the same size Samsung brand extended battery ( 2600 mAh ). So when searching for an extended battery on ebay, amazon, etc. do a search for the Charge & Continuum.
 
FWIW...

I did manage to find the extended battery. I bought two and the door required to use them. Here's why I do NOT recommend that anyone else buy them:

  • Phyiscally, the extended batteries are about the thickness of 2-1/2 standard batteries
  • Performance, one extended battery has less than double the power of one standard battery
  • The phone looks re7arded with an extended battery in place. I used to own a Droid-X. The extended battery on it was barely noticeable.

You're much better off buying an external drop-in charger like this which fits well in your car, home or office (NOT like this which you'd never want in your car) and buying one or two extra standard capacity batteries. You won't mind carrying one or even two standard batteries in your pocket, but not an extra extended battery.

Well since the extended battery is a 2600 vs the stock 1600 I'd not expect more than 2/3's more time. If I was only getting 8 hers, I'd expect 13 hours with the extended battery.

As for thickness, I'd seen a photo where the back of the battery isn't any thicker than the lower bulge of the phone.

I'd hate to be having to pull my rubber cover off, then the back cover off to change batteries even one a day every day just to swap in another stock battery. If I could find a good rubber cover for the extended battery I'd go that route.
