Ok, I bought my Esteem a few weeks ago and am becoming irritated to no end with Wi-Fi. I've also contacted LG with no fix to my problem. My question...Is there any security risk to connecting to an open hot spot? It's great the phone scans for hot spots, but I want to be able to choose which hot spot to connect to. Or, tell the phone to connect only to my router when in range. Every time I turn on Wi-Fi it automatically tries to connect to my neighbors unsecured router and am getting tired of having to tell it to connect to my router. In addition, LG says the forget button is to forget credentials to login to a router? The forget button should tell the phone to forget the hot spot and not connect to it in my opinion.

The phone will not automatically connect to a wifi that you have not connected to in the past. Therefore, if you click on the forget button and never click to connect on your neighbors wifi it will only connect to your router.
Edit: Damn, I completely forgot, it might be the EasyWifi crap...I mean app. I got rid of that sh*t as soon as I got my phone. Some people like to defend that app but it was more of a hindrance to me, personally.

Yeah, you have to root to get rid of that type of stuff. It's a one-click method but, don't jump in if you don't think you are ready. However, there are plenty of people here that will be more than happy to help if you run into any problems.

I say, wait on the root until a custom recovery is created... also, take a deep breath and don't be nit-picky about it, or it will get worse...
I've seen people complain about errors after removing EasyWifi after rooting, but I'm no expert, so better careful than sorry (even though I didn't follow my own advise, and rooted anyway, so far no complaints from Easy Wi-Fi either).

Thanks for the input. I need to research more before I attempt to root my phone. I just don't get why it didn't come that way to begin with, not rooted, just have it do what I want it to. Some of the features on my Esteem are not the same as they were on my old dumb phone, plus the battery issues. Even though my old phone was not smart, it did things, the Esteem does not. Installing apps to fix my problem just doesn't seem like the logical solution, the phone should already be set up as such. Just my opinion.

I agree to a certain point. I used to be kind of like you, and complain about a lot for annoyances, but I found out that in a sense, it is imposible to please everyone, and that there is a a reason why all carriers, and phone companies try to squeeze as much as they can from us, because hardware and software development, and marketing is not cheap my friend... and even after that, it's human nature that companies run by people will always have an intent to take some advantage of us...
That being said, I came from Sprint to Metro, had amazing service, and my old EVO 4G was so smooth and beautiful in almost every sense... I took advantage of the system and had a family plan set up with friends, only paid 65$ a months for a true unlimited everything data plan that would costs above 120 normally to new users (even the phones were free, all 4 of them because of a Radioshack offer)... but sadly had to leave because of my personal need of unlimited international calling to my country, hence why I came back to Metro, because Sprint would take advantage of me, if I decided to ask for that service.
I guess, the reason I took advantage of the system instead of the system taking advantage of me, is because I DID my research before doing anything... and that's something the vast majority of people do not do... I'm young, but believe me, it is beyond me how many people out there don't do research, buy things they don't need,and suck at administrating their money...
I guess the fault is on us a little, if you see it that way... and at the end of the day it's just a phone yeah, but at least I'm grateful for having so many opportunities in this country compared to mine, and I'm grateful for so many helpful people in here, ready to help out of their kindness.

Easy Wi-fi will not connect you to an unsecured neighbor's router automatically.
Easy wi-fi is actually a useful app. You don't have to use it but don't spread lies about it.

Easy Wi-Fi will automatically connect you to hotspots in their authenticated network, not unsecured random hotspots.
You must have told it to connect to that router, maybe thinking it was yours.
And if you did accidentally connect and do not wish to anymore, you can tell it to "forget" and it will not connect again until you decide to. It will notify you there is an open hotspot, but will not automatically connect you without your permission (unless it's an already authenticated part of the Easy Wi-Fi network).

I don't know guys, but I can bouche for this. In my case it never connected me to any network unless I chose to do so (never tweaked its settings the first time). It simply remembered my wireless network and got me in it whenever I re-opened Easy Wifi, for that reason I never had to tweak its settings again, unless I was at Mc Donalds sometimes, and used their WiFi.

You might be right, I honestly don't click on random wifi spots (especially with 4g everywhere I go) but, I can't rule out the possibility that it happened.
But, if you read my first post I did not state that it clearly was EasyWifi, I said it might be, so you don't have to accuse anyone of "spreading lies and misinformation." I don't particularly find the app useful myself and if you do that's fine.
