Help Forwarding VM to Google Voice

For some reason the Nexus won't forward my incoming calls to Google Voice. Installing on the phone I get the message

Unfortunately your network carrier is currently not supported for automatic voicemail configuration....

I have tried to *71 way to forward to Google Voicemail but it is still not working.

Any Suggestions?

I believe you have to go into settings in Google Voice on your PC to activate Google voicemail. I don't use this option so I am not 100% sure.

I had this same problem switching from my Droid 2 to the Iphone then back to my Nexus, and I have yet to find a workaround to not get it to show up on Google voice. I've even deselected it to no avail. I've just learned to live with it.

I got the same error and just clicked through it. Went to Phone --> Settings and changed voicemail service to Google Voice and that seemed to work. I called it from my work phone yesterday and it directed it to Google voice.

Go to the dialer and there will be an icon for settings (the three dots arranged vertically). Click that and you should see the "Voicemail Service". Click that and change to Google Voice.

I was able to set it up on mine last night. I had never used Google Voice before. The issue I had was that I told GV I wanted to use my cell number, but actually I needed to have it create a number.

Then I used the *71 (GV# ###-###-####) to forward the voice mail to it. Then in the Google Voice App settings I set it as the default voice mail for my phone.

Seems to be working for me, now. I don't think there are any VZW restrictions trying to force you into paid VVM.

Same here, works like normal regardless of that message. I was freaking out for a second though yesterday

I was able to change this yesterday, but when I tested it the call went to my verizon voice mail. What number is suppose to be set for the voicemail number for google voice? Your GV number or does there need to be more?

Mine set up fine by dialing *71(GV number). I made a few test calls and it worked fine. I am not seeing my voicemails show up in the call log though.

If you are still having trouble getting it set up, you may want to uninstall GV and try reinstalling it.

I figured it out.

I was using Google Voice Lite. When you dial *71 (GV#) it will give you the error. On the desktop website for voice, when you click activate voicemail it actually gives you a slightly different # to dial after *71.

In my case, my VM # ends in 014 but I had to dial 011. If you forward to the voicemail # itself it gives you the "Please Enter the Number you wish to dial followed by the # sign"

Hope this helps anyone else.
