I just gave up on Face Unlock

I turned Face Unlock on when I first got my phone, and I've finally decided to turn it back off. I wasn't doing it for security, but for the "cool" factor, and also because it was actually more convenient when it worked. I've spent a lot of time trying to "train" the feature by using the "Improve Face Unlock" process to recognize my face in different lighting conditions and with/without my glasses on. Despite that, it still doesn't work 90% of the time, and I'm stuck with using the pattern unlock.

Since that's the case, I'm going to wait and see if they release any improvements and try again later. Other than that, I'm loving this phone and this new OS!

Is anyone else having a good experience with this feature?

Works fine for me. I am in the process of growing out my facial hair even further out then it is and it finds me every time, even in low light. It does fail sometimes but its to be expected if lighting conditions are not the greatest. Too much light or too little light will cause it to fail.

I only seem to have problems with extreme lighting situations (ones where it can't even complete the "Improve Face Unlock"). Other than that it works about 99% of the time for me. Maybe my face is ugly AND simple!

I find it worked great when lighting was normal. If lighting was subpar or I was really backlit, it wouldn't work.

I used it for a day on my first nexus, it worked great and I did not do any of the extra facial recognition screenings available..

Are you ugly? Maybe it does not like you ;)

I used mine for about 20 minutes and it worked nearly instantly every time (tested about 5-6 times).. dont use it only because I'd rather use my pattern unlock rather than looking at my own ugly mug to unlock it every time

I trained mine up pretty well but realized I cant unlock the phone quickly at night in my car. Switched back to only pattern unlock.

It worked fine for me, I was using it for a while. I turned it off because I realized a lot of the time when I unlock my phone it's inconvenient to have to actually hold it up to my face. But it did work, and was fast, I'm impressed.

mine worked ok, i would say unless i was in weird light it was fast and worked pretty consitantly, it was really cool. that being said i turned it off. i don't wear a watch since i always have a cell phone with me and sometimes i just want to see the time. with the face unlock i had to look at the phone directly and unlock it. i just want to tap the power button realy fast, see the time and tap it off again.

Funny thing, I set it up at night and it worked pretty well. I went to unlock my screen the next morning when I woke up, and my hair was sticking up everywhere and it wouldn't recognize me! hahah...I smoothed my hair a bit and then it was fine. Could be an issue when people get haircuts heh

I'm confused - the time is displayed on a big font right on the face unlock screen. Why did you have to unlock it to see the time?

Face unlock works damn well for me but I don't really use it since it's both not as secure as a PIN/pattern, and not as quick as the swipe to unlock.

I enjoyed the novelty of this feature, but turned it off pretty quick. I realized how many angles I turn my phone on from -- car, desk, etc. -- where I don't come close to looking at the screen that way.

In fact, I turned off the slide lock, too. I don't see the point of it.

If you press where the lock appears even before it appears the pattern comes up instantly. This is good for when your in the dark and you know its not going to work.

Face unlock works really well for me. It picked up on me even with glasses and from angles where the phone isn't eye level with me. It only gets quicker when I run the improve recognition process.

Super annoying that I can't encrypt my phone and use face unlock. It would be nice if I could use face unlock, and then have it require a PIN say, once a day etc.

If im tired and my eyes are half closed I need to open my eyes a bit to get recognized. Lol i think it thinks im Chinese sometimes.

My pet peeve is just that little delay before the camera loads up. Once it sees my face, its nearly instant. A cool feature, but ultimately (probably) not one that i'll use regularly unless improvements are made.
