Root Overclock Questions for CM7

I'm running CM7 from a micro SD. The mod version is 7.1.0 encore stable. I've also installed the 'Nook Tweaks' App by Dalngrin which looks like it gives me some options for changing the clock speed. I would like to overclock my nook to at least 1.1 Ghz. Do I need to add any additional files to my micro SD and/or what setting do I need to change in 'Nook Tweaks' or 'Settings.'

I've looked for around for some up-to-date guides which explain overclocking on the Nook Color but I can't find anything. If some one could walk me through it or explain it to me, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure it would be useful to others out there as well....

Thanks so much and I love the Nook Color! :D

Overclocking is simple and if you install an app to turn it on, like SetCPU ($2).

Then open the app and move the max slider to the right (1,100,000), then check the "set on boot" check box and enjoy.

Do NOT set the governor to "performance" since that sets the min and max speeds to be your max speed. Your battery will not last long and your NC will overheat, maybe even destroy the cpu. The default governor will work fine (conservative).

Ummm.... I've had my Nook Color all of about a week (it's actually a gift for somebody else) but during my reading, I'm almost 97% positive that I read that SetCpu is not recommended due to some kind of issues it caused. I don't remember the reason as I had yet to explore overclocking the CPU but they said that if you want to overclock your CPU, then it's best to do it using the native CM7 method.

I wish I could show a reference, but I've searched through so many forums (trying to learn this Nook with up to date info) that I can no longer recall. I'm pretty sure it was from XDA (which seems to be much more active than Androidforums when it comes to the Nook Color.

Well that's my two cents

You don't want to use profiles with SetCpu. There's other apps you can use with the NC. I just don't recall. I've been on the HP TP too long.

It's hard not to treat this thing like a large Droid, lol. I see in Brightness control there's no Auto feature. Probably because there's no light sensor I'm guessing. I've used SetCPU on my OG Droid and now my Razr and love it. But this is a different animal so I'm gonna be cautious. Not sure why Profiles wouldn't work, though. Especially when screen is off, reduce CPU speed to minimum to help Battery life. Or reduce is when the batt is below a threshold. Or when plugged in, go to max performance. I'd probably set it on OnDemand to ramp up and down per useage req. But I've not put it on this yet.......yet.....

Profiles is a no-no and there probably is a preferred app over setcpu. I don't have a NC with CM7 on it to check tho.

There should be overclock settings in "cyanogenmod settings" if you look. SetCPU shouldn't be required.

I don't recall. Never used them and just recall Dalingrin saying not to use them. The issues may have been resolved by now, who knows. If you try it, make sure you create a backup in recovery. :D

Well go to cyanogenmod settings, go to performance, then cpu setting to overclock. Its pretty easy, but i seen some people overclock it to 1.6 ghz, which is way to much, and the max you can overclock it with the settings is around 1 ghz

I set mine to 1.2 MHz max an 600 Mhz minimum, ended up running soooo slow.
So I changed it to 800mhz max and 600 mhz min. It works just fine, no more crashes. lol. If there's a better setting than that to make it faster, I'd love to know. :D

Not all hardware likes 1200. You could try the next step slower (1000 maybe).

Not sure I like the 600 for min. Isn't stock like 300 or so?

Not sure where to check the stock speed. lol

I'll try the following CPU settings:
Governor - Conservative
Min CPU frequency - 300 mhz
Max CPU frequency - 1100 mhz

I'll try to mix and match. But I'll definitely love to know what works for other NC's using CM7. :)

The stock speed would have been where it was at before you started messing with it. :D

(Conservative, 300, 800)

I've always run 1200 for max, but if it's hanging, best to back it off to 1100.

lol, i set it to 800min and 1200max, but as usual I get a message like "... is not responding" are there any good applications out there that can help out? I don't like turning it off and on most of the time when it freezes. ^^

I use 300/1100 also and it's more consistent than 300/1200

300/800 is too slow and laggy. 300/1200 gets alot of freezes for me

It all depends on how good your cpu is. If they all would do 1200, you'd probably see a 1300 for max.

Ok I'm gonna use 300min and 1100max! :D

Btw, I installed the app - Nook Tweaks version 1.4.3 (by Dalingrin)
I didn't do any changes with it just yet. Is it advisable to use it? It also got CPU settings, audio settings (which i like).

Yep it's Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 encore. (android ver. 2.3.7)
I just installed the Dalingrin application out of curiosity. hehe :D

thanks for helping out even if you don't have an NC. :D
Dalingrin's app seems ok, I am only after the volume controls to make the speaker sound just a little bit louder which is cool (although maxing it out sounds bad). :)

There's not much you can do if the speakers aren't loud enough out of the box. Dalingrins app does good with what it has to work with. :D
