It gives me the same notification alert for incoming texts (important) as emails (not usually important especially in the middle of the night.) Maybe an app or I might just be missing something?

I spent hours trying to figure this out and so far. NO! But good news I downloaded Handcent SMS app and it lets me customize a ringtone for each person. You can find it in the "Market". Good luck.
Depends a LOT on the program. I have my stock notification that is used by texts. I went into GMAIL and changed the notification setting in GMAIL to use a different tone and voila. Just try changing the setting with the app that notifies you. Im sure some won't work but some might.
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH to dinomosion!!!! I downloaded the HANDCENT SMS app. and setting a custom notification tone was BEYOND simple!!!!! What a relief; I have been trying EVERY way you could possibly think of and more to no avail! I have gotten frustrated more than once until I downloaded this app!!!
