GNex & Slingbox

My Slingbox HD is hooked to a Series 3 Tivo via component cables and my playback is fast and smooth. There is also a noticeable improvement in video quality compared to my Thunderbolt.

I've been watching Slingbox over my Nexus and have to amend my statement above. Watching the Falcons game, I notice that if there is a lot of motion on the screen, like a punt where the camera pans the whole field, it definitely is jittery. But when there's little motion, like a close up shot of a player on the sideline, it's smooth.

Yup, that's exactly what I see. Talking heads are fine, but watching the Giants game today on the Nexus there's lots of stuter. Hopefully it's something that Slingbox can fix with the App.

Working fine on my Galaxy Nexus on LTE network. I have the ancient Slingbox Pro. Video looks like it always has on mobile devices.

When you say 'video looks like it always has on mobile devices', what do you mean? Does that mean a bit 'choppy' and not smooth?

I know the Nexus is capable of ultra-smooth HD playback as evidenced by either HD movie trailers from MovieFone or many on YouTube. So I don't think it's the Nexus causing choppy playback, I think it's a reduced frame rate as set by the Slingbox Android App.

it definitely seems to be an issue with the android app. video is also somewhat choppy on my acer tablet (i use the phone version, saw no need to pay extra for the tablet one).

however, while my netbook is tethered to my nexus, slingbox playback on it is very smooth.

I have the same issue with slingplayer on my Gnex as well... practically a slide show at times...

I thought at first it was because something else in the background was causing an issue, but there was nothing running... also thought because I had "force 2d gpu acceleration" enable, but disabling it did nothing...

My Nexus one gives me a smooth 30fps, on the Gnex i get 15 if I'm lucky...

Could it be that the app is struggling to scale to the 720p resolution??

FYI, I have a Slingplayer PRO (not the HD new one)...

I was told the slingbox server slows down a bit on gameday sundays because so many people sling the games. Even viewing it on my computer, the picture can get jumpy.
I have an HD Sling.

I haven't been able to fully test on the GNex because we temporarily hooked it up via coax. It works but the picture is terrible. I'm anxious to get the component cables hooked back up to it. I wish it accepted HDMI.

Streaming from my SlingBox HD has been good. Probably not 30 fps, but still pretty smooth. I'm more annoyed that they haven't updated the app to get rid of the soft keys (like the youtube app) and use the entire screen to show the video.

Thanks Chief. Must be something different about that App associated with the Dish. Is your motion buttery smooth as if watching on an HDTV?

Sorry for the delay in answering! :o

It isn't as "buttery smooth" but it IS watchable.

I thought it might be a good idea to try to "Force GPU Rendering" in Developer Options in Settings. BAD IDEA. The Dish app will crash every time, just as it tries to load the Guide. I was pulling my hair out for half an hour: clearing data, uninstalling/reinstalling the app, rebooting, THEN remembered the setting. I de-selected "Force GPU Rendering" and Dish works all day.

Your description of it looking like a slide show is a bullseye. They really need to fix this. It plays very well on my IPad, but is really unwatchable on my GNex.
