Root HTCdev unlock issue

sjeffers

Newbie
I am trying to unlock the bootloader and when I get to the final step it seems to freeze after typing in fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin at the command prompt.

Anyone have any ideas what may be happening and steps I need to take to fix this.

HTC sync can cause this problem. Kill it if you're running it on your PC. Also try disconnecting/reconnecting your phone to the PC.

I killed HTC sync and tried again with no success.
Tried again and command just sits there and does nothing. When I unplug the phone from the computer this is the message I receive in command prompt:

sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))
finished. total time: 27.024s

Any ideas?

I'm stuck at the same last step. It just sits there, saying sending unlock...
did you restart the PC/laptop with HTC Sync uninstalled? I have tried restarting my laptop but that didn't help. I have sync installed though.

what else did you do? I unistalled sync, restarted system and phone, still getting stuck at the same prompt.:(

Sorry your having issues. Steps that I took from memory are:
1. Unistalled sync.
2. Battery pull on phone and restart in fastboot mode.
3. Restarted computer.
4. Tried command again and it took.

For what it is worth I had to retry the command about 10 times overall before I got it to work.

Hope this helps.

I've tried in more than 10 times, even submitted the code many times. One thing I did notice, everytime I hit the get oem code command, I got a different code output.

I had exactly the same problem, whatever I tried it would freeze at this step, connected to my Windows-machine with USB1.1. Then I tried connecting the DZ to my Linux-machine with USB2.0 and it worked on first try. Maybe give that a shot?

Yes, I had the same problem. The fix for me using Win 7 was to download the HTV Vivid sync program. Once I installed that, my computer could see my device. Then I was able to get the email sent to me with the unlockcode.bin.

But what the hell I do with that now - I have no idea. I am novice.

click the link to take you back to htcdev's directions.

in a nutshell: save the unlock_code.bin in the same folder as adb and fastboot(the same one you used to get the unlock token). id reccomend saving it somewhere else on your PC as well in case you need it,as you can lock and re-unlock as many times as you wish with the same unlock code. enter the code listed above. it will unlock your bootloader, and factory reset your phone.

after your unlocked you can permanently or temporarily install a recovery and use it to make backups, flash roms,or simply install the superuser app and binary to continue on a rooted stock rom :)

if you have PDA net installed,it may be interfering with the phone as well. pretty much you need to temporarilydisable any program that can interact with your phone in fastboot.
