CheckROM Revolution v4.0

I go down the pub for a bit and its all kicks off with CheckROM v5 beta!

I thought with N.E.A.K. and Siyah that I was done for the day... and I think I am, after reading the xda forum.

It would seem that JKay is not supporting this version at the moment with his Themes and Deluxe Settings which is a shame as I use an awful lot of the settings in it, not to mention the themes themselves.

Also, since Megaupload is now off air, there is a scramble to get v5.

You'll have to be patient if you want it as it took me about 45 min's.

im downloading it now before the pub (sittin at 113mb). i use jkays stuff quite a bit too, but still can't resist the temptation of a new firmware. always comforting to know that if it goes tits up, i can always rely on my nice cwm backup :)

just downloaded v5 beta + siyah 2.6.8 and i`m already sure, i won`t be bored tonight at work :D

checkrom&siyah!! FTW ;)

Oh, shut up simes6600! :D

You know I'm easily tempted!

I'm off out again in less than 2 hours... wonder if I've got time for a quick flash... and possibly a flash back, before then?

Just for a look-see you understand.

right, installed v5 over the top of v4, didn't wipe anything, not even my nose.

themes are gone as expected, no jkay support :( was also strange hearing the samsung boot music after a couple of months rest. firmware is very smooth as expected, a tad smoother than v4 but there ain't any of my mods and themes running so that would prob add to the smoothness. oh and the status bar battery indicator has the percentage in the middle of it. ran a few apps, no probs. forgot about the new lockscreen as i already had widgetlocker ICS running.

i would love to give it a longer run (played about 20 mins with it), but the lack of jkay made me restore to v4 which always ran sweet.

My findings are very much like simes6600.

Weird, not having my Android zaps Apple boot animation.

I tried to flash it from the Kitchen but no go.

Unlike simes6600 I did a full wipe, force of habit and helps prevent problems down the line.

Odd not having the JKay theme and Deluxe Settings. So used to them in lots of ways that I really miss. I sort of feel that I only have half a ROM.

Things that I had to change were the modem and kernel and the battery indicator which, in v5, is blue whilst the drop down has green icons!!!

To be perfectly honest, I can't see a lot of difference between this and v4.

As I'm running out of time, before I go out, I'm wondering if it's actually worth keeping v5 on or just flash my v4 back on.

Sorry mate, stable version of what? An ICS kernel? I thought there were those already out there? Reading that Farcebook thread, I also wonder whether or not CheckROM are concentrating their efforts on SGN rather than SGS2. No worries if they are, but a bit of fronting up would be nice.

I'll just put my paws up and watch you guinea pigs test it out. Im not going anywhere without my Jkay quick menu ever again :D

stable version of ICS. this was the post from the faecebook checkrom page from 16th jan...

"SGS2 Rom will come only after we find something better than XXLP2, so v5 will be ICS :) No Eta's"

GC is just keeping his followers happy until the real V5 comes up. Since V5 will be ICS when a very stable ICS rom appears (the sammobile ones aren't perfect), this isn't actually a beta of V5 :P I keep telling him he should make these 2.3.6 betas a v4.5 or something.

And I have the same issue as everyone else that jkay doesn't support the LA2 yet (I want my redmonkey theme back dammit!)

After your comments lads i decided not to flash it as there's no jkay support which is so useful, i cant imagine using any rom without it!

Yeah I'm surprised GC chose this release for a public beta. The previous two had jkay support :D

For anyone struggling to find links (since xda clogs every server up), here is a more private mirror.

Same here... no jkay, no flash... I'll just have to be happy with the new Siyah for now, which isn't a problem at all since CRv4 is a gem!

Hey guys,

A beta of V5 is up on xda! It's based on XILA2!

It came out there same time as we got it. Unfortunately the xda traffic was too much and the link has been temporarily disabled.

Oh great! Been sitting here sipping some good 20 year old Dalwhinnie Scotch most of the night and then I read this. I don't think I have the courage to install this tonight so it will be a tomorrow job. Anyone install it yet and can report some good news?

I clocked above 6000 on AnTuTu just on a random test as soon as I flashed. Then I added KP8 and Siyah 2.6.8 and it went down slightly (as it does :P).

Overall it's looking good! For those that didn't have the previous betas, you'll feel the difference. The only drawback is lack of jkay but if you're like me and develop themes based on launchers an backgrounds, the differences are minute. If you think you will die horribly without jkay, don't go for it.

Can't comment accurately on battery yet. I'll edit in a couple of hours (it will have been nearly 2 days then).

Edit: Looking great for me! It lasted over a day the first full-charge and i'm currently on 42% with about 19hours gone.

I dont even use jkay themes although tjat may change in future. The last one i tried from kitchenapp was pretty buggy for me. The main feature for me is the power and quick menus. Beautiful feature. Im sure itll be added soon enough :-)

LA2 actually :P

And yep, Swype and Samsung Keyboard have disappeared on mine. I didn't notice because I use Swiftkey. Also, I didn't think to look!

For those not looking at the other current Jkay thread.

New operating system means a simple port of the current Jkay could produce a ton of bugs not supported by Jkay. Sure you could test the old software and Jkay has acknowledged a willingness to hear of any results but If Gadget check just threw it in there and people started whining it didn't work then Jkay wouldn't wanna know.

GC has just finished work on the Galaxy Note and now that is where you will find Jkay for the time being. Once that is done Im sure work will begin on ICS.

We will get our turn but for now GC is testing HIS software on ICS.

It makes sense that if GC releases a random new rom without jkay support, that jkay will get bugged about it (no pun intended). Like I said, I'm quite surprised that this particular build made it to the public beta; it's the worst V5 beta he's done!

On the ICS field, GC hasn't liked any of the ICS builds that sammobile has dished out so far, so he's not wasting his time with them (unlike the CM guys that just release alphas of everything and waste people's time :P).
