[UNOFFICIAL][ICS][NIGHTLIES] CM9/ICS Nightly Builds - xda-developers

Changelog: Gerrit Code Review

I have not tried these. :D

Sorry for the double post, just checking in. I installed ics on my nook. Seems to be running good thus far. Definitely needs a bit more work but surprisingly its pretty stable. My main issue thus far is the keyboard. Long press on buttons to get alternate numbers and symbols does not work.

This is certainly exciting though. I think I'll leave it on here a few days and toy around with it.

Does Netflix work on ICS/Nook Color? I am on CM7

Sadly no. That is the only thing keeping me back from using ICS as a daily driver.

For a keyboard I suggest thumb keyboard for both CM7 and CM9. It has a small adjustment period but I think it's worth it.

Just curious if I don't write cwm to the device, would the nook color factory reset still work after installing cm9? Just curious cause if I eventually decide to install cm9 it would be nice to have an easy way to return to stock since my device is under warranty. Also has anyone tried installing ics to sd card yet? I once factory reset after manual nuetering with b&n 1.2.

waiting for it clear up a bit before I load onto my nook. Tried it on my Galaxy a month plus ago. Loved it, they're now up to build 5 for my phone so I may be switching back to it shortly.

I love ICS so far. Although I hadn't tried netflix and wasn't aware it didn't work. I like using an OS that doesn't feel make me feel like I'm holding a huge phone in my hand. :)

Ok only problem I am having and it's only with CM9 is that I get authentication problems when trying to connect to Wi-Fi both at work and at home. Don't have the problem on stock or CM7. Just saying in case someone else had this problem and resolved it or anyone wants to know a possible bug other than netflix not working.

No one has mentioned this anywhere, but I know this works for a fact. If u load into cwm and do a nandroid backup of the stock rom, and THEN install cm7/cm9, if you later want to return to stock just go either into recovery or rom manager, and restore that stock backup, it will return your nook to 100 % stock. It will even remove cwm from the emmc.

Its the first thing I tested before I went crazy tinkering on my nook. I bought it, charged it, made a cwm bootable sdcard, put it in my nook, turned it on, backed up the stock rom, wiped the system, installed cm7 to emmc.

Then I booted into cm7, opened rom manager, flashed cwm to my emmc. I checked to make sure cwm installed to emmc by booting into recovery from the powered down state.

Rebooted system into cm7, put the sdcard with my stock backup on it in, opened rom manager, restored stock backup. 100% restored to stock. I've confirmed this. ;)

Phew.. long post... fingers tired..

Btw guys, run the v6 supercharger script if you install cm9, it makes a huge difference in speed. I use the hard to kill setting.

"nook color factory reset"... if you mean the 6 (or is it 7?) failed boots, my understanding is that it only works with the stock rom, but I may be wrong. That never worked for me anyway. I always had to flash a back-to-stock file.

I'd just back up the stock rom with a bootable sdcard, install whatever rom you want and restore your backup if you don't like it. OTOH, there's several guides here on how to return to stock.

Yeah, that's exactly what I did. Makes returning. To stock alot simpler. I hope my mini guide was simple enough for him to follow lol, I tend to overstate things at times.

On a side note, I have restored my previous rom, after using ics for a day. Its just not stable enough for me to make it my main os yet. A few issues, albeit minor, but enough to make me not ready to move to 4.0 completely yet. They are definitely getting close to completion though, it runs pretty darn good, its just that gingerbread is much faster, responsive and less buggy as of yet.

ICS: Just put down my HP Touchpad. We got our first build today. :D

Email and calendars are broken. (What else is new?)

I'd be surprised if that's all you find broken when all is said and done, lol we know how these things work.

How does it run on your machine?

Like I said early, its still kind of slow on the nook, stable ... but still slow, its getting better with every 'unofficial' nightly though. If you've tried it, you can definitely tell that when its finished and optimized, its gonna be pretty dang awesome :)

Did you try the V6 supercharger script?

I thought it ran fine, but could use some stability improvements. Some people commented that it rebooted if not plugged into the charger. :D

I used v6 yeah, like I said above it definitely made an impact on performance, my main gripe was typing. My finger taps were lagged. I could actually watch my words type 3 characters behind my taps lol.

I didn't have any reboot issues, the build was actually quite speedy and stable, typing aside. I did notice that compared to cm7, cm9 was chewing through a bit more system resources.

I'm sure it'll all get sorted over the next couple weeks though.

Edit : btw, I don't know if you noticed but the first quote you used about the v6 script was actually my recommendation, lol so yeah of course I tried it :p

Dang.... I was thinking I was helping someone with YOUR recommendation. Fingers were moving faster than my brain could keep up with... :D

Haha, happens to me all the time, no worries. Just ask my wife, according to her my foot spends more time in my mouth than in my shoe. ;)

Just tried running this from the sd card and I have to say I like it. It feels pretty damn smooth. Thanks for orienting me to it.

I'm digging it so far. I just installed using THESE instructions. Sort of. Boot to CWM recovery, flash update-encore-2012xxxx.zip where xxxx is the latest, and gapps-ics-4.0.3-sam-noinit.zip. I didn't have the telephony file, but it seems to work so far. At least it boots and runs. I didn't format data and it automatically found all my apps and hooked into my wifi.

The only issue seems to be the auto rotate, but I haven't even found the setting for that yet, so it may be a simple fix.

ETA: Got it fixed. Just a setting that wasn't enabled by default. :D
