Help New RAZR: every now and again, No Data Connection?

all 4g phones on verizon's lte network have experienced this. it's been the cause of thousands of unnecessary returns.

A good friend from Denver just called me that just switch to Verizon with the same problem on her new Samsung. I am in FL also experiencing the lost data problem.

yep .. no data connection at random times is supposedly normal for this droid phone .. its what i read when i searched the net for reviews... and even tho i knew about it .. i still picked it. the other features sold me. ya takes the goods with the bads.

Had the same problem with the thunderbolt.

It's a lte radio issue.

Just toggle airplane mode.
Still an awesome phone

Yep, Just picked up the Razr Maxx yesterday and it too is loosing signal and dropping data. It was working fine until I let the battery drain down to 20%, then it started acting up...

Are you sure you have no Smart Actions set up to kick in whn battery goes low?

I live and work in a 3g only area. And I have no network connection problems here. However, when I do go visit the more urban areas of California, I have noticed the same network problems everyone in this thread has talked about. So it appears to not be the phone. It is the 4g areas, and Verizon is the problem. It's almost nice to come back to 3g areas because then I know I can at least connect to the internet when I want to.

Didn't read through all of this so might already be posted. Anyway it's a VZW issue and happens on almost all of their phones. Long story short it's a security authentication error.

Main reason being because 4G is still pretty new and thus towers getting updated and changed etc. Though they also switched the authentication code of the CDMA they used in the past to a new one for the 4G network. Needless to say this has caused conflicts within their verification system.

So chances are until 4G becomes the norm it's one of those things VZW is working on but will take time. Again 4G is still new tech in the cell phone world. There is a large article about it on android police if your curious.

I had the same problem. I even got a replacement phone but that didn't solve the issue. It was still losing 4G connection.

I think I fixed the problem by setting up a smart action on the Razr Maxx to turn off the background sync (action) when display is on (trigger). When I do this, the Google servers (indicated by blue 4G LTE and blue bars) are now disconnected (because 4G LTE and bars are now white) and now the phone works great -- no lost connection anymore! When the display times out and screen goes dark, then background sync starts up again and my email etc. gets retrieved and sent (i.e. the Google server connection is restored). I've operated this way for two days now and have not had the connection issue.

However, when you use Google Play to install new apps, it asks you to temporarily turn background sync back on, so you might encounter a "no connection" during the app installation (wait for connection to be restored, or switch airplane mode on and off to restore), but after new app installtion just turn the display back off and then on again, and the background sync will be turned off again when you use the phone.

So this problem has just begun to happen with my phone the past couple of days. I have had my phone since January with absolutely no problems with data connectivity issues. I first noticed the issue when I tried to do a 4g speed test at the airport and got no speed.

Now the big question what is the fix???

I have intermittent data issues several times a day and now also when going from from 4g to 3g areas. The 4g 3g issue used to not happen, but now suddenly is. Seems network related since no tweaks or updates on my part.

Apparently the fix is the 181 update. I forced checked for the update and it was there, and let me tell you that I did not think that I would ever be relieved to see a GB update. But alas all is fixed now.

I have the same problem with my phone it is very annoying I have found changing the CDMA to LTE and then changing it back to CDMA it connects it right back to the data, every now and again somehow my airplane mode is on???

Bad cricket then, since the data issues are awful. Especially 4g 3g handoffs and data roaming. I have wanted to bust the Razr against a wall during the current trip I am returning from now.

Either the Razr is sucking or the network is.

Added: Wether a coincidence for data issues, the update IMO is a downgrade from the previous.

Download Fresh Network from the market. It cycles all of the radios and will help restore your 4G/3G/wifi/cell/bluetooth connections.

For the first time ever, I had a data connection issue yesterday. It was my home dsl modem losing its connection, ( I have to power it down every three weeks or so) and my Razr Maxx had Wifi set on to connect automatically to my home wireless.

I had so many forced closes and restarted several times before I checked my wifi status on my laptop and whattaya know, strong signal from my wireless router, but no connection to the internet.

I quickly powered up my Maxx, and turned of wifi, vioila game on.

Just wanted to add this to a possible scenario that may cause a data connection issue.
