5.9.902 is official!

Before update - I had to toggle on/off airplane mode to get available 4G.
After update - I have to toggle on/off wifi mode to get available 4G.
At work this week, I performed a suggested update to my Pantech UML 290 wireless USB (Verizon also) and it now can't pick up 4G.
Good to know Verizon reliability is consistent.
 
truth, well tomorrow Im going to Verizon...........again

something is getting done, or I am going to at&t, whats the point of having lightening fast 4g if I cant use it? :mad:
 
Do you all have 4G enabled?

On the B ionic ...
Settings | Wireless & networks | Mobile networks | Network mode
Make sure CDMA LTE is selected

Yes, I've used that setting since I bought the phone. The handoff to 3G when signal is poor has always been an issue - and vice versa - picking up a strong 4G from 3G. Thought the 902 would improve that. Still too soon to tell. Thank goodness for toggle widgets.

ok I think I'm losing it - my SILENT notification ringtone is gone?! Anyone else? All the other ones are there (the crappy default ones and the ones I created).
 
I had a message on my Bionic saying an update was available, so I agreed to install it. It went through all the steps, rebooting twice, and then I got an error saying "software update failed". Could this be because I am rotted, or should I just try it again?

Rooting does not cause the update to fail. If you've removed or frozen any of the bloatware or stock apps if will fail, however.
 
Update 5.9.902.

Approximately 24 hours after update installed, I have noticed the following changes:
1. Dramatic increase in battery life.
2. No data drops as opposed to at least 12 times daily.
3. Smooth bluetooth connection as opposed to erratic and loss of connectivity.
4. Annoying roaming pop ups increased.
5. Lag in switching from 3g to wifi.

I am very pleased with the update so far.......

Britney, are you actually starting to like your Bionic? One thing I have realized is that the battery does seem to be doing better. I thought it was just me, too soon to finalize on that decision though. Anyone else noticing better battery life?
 
I had liked the Bionic from the day I got it, however, after the first month several issues surfaced. These issues were further exacerbated with the previous update. I had listed a series of issues that were severely impeding the use of the device. I did not not get satisfatory support from verizon nor motorola to whom I was referred. I had further seen those same problems on most of the bionics that my colleagues used. I have not had a chance to talk to anyone about the improvement similar to what I am experiencing. But definitely my device is like a completely functional bionic. The minor issues I can deal with. I am hoping these improvements are not short lived.

I've defrosted everything using Ti Backup, including things I don't remember freezing. I'm still getting the same failed install. Any ideas?

Ask your questions in the All Things Root forum area... this area is primarily for stock phone users so you won't get many responses here...

Also I'd suggest that you don't be so generic in your question and the info you provide... Tell them the method you used to root, the Rom ( if any ) you applied ), any other changes you can remember doing... Remember no one but you knows what you've done or changed.

If you're installing the update manually, make sure you've booted to stock recovery. Mine was failing since I was trying to update via Clockworkmod recovery. I'm also assuming that you're not outside of the upgrade path and have 5.5.893 presently installed?

Good point about being less generic. I didn't think about that because all I did was root to freeze some bloat.

I tired this, but it seems the download has to be on the SD card (not sure if this means this means the true SD card or internal storage), but I don't have the choice for a 902 update.
 
Downloaded last night when it was offered to me at 1:30 AM (feeding my 3 month old). Upgrade went very smoothly and the phone seems to handoff a bit better.

(Disclaimer, I live in a hilly area but with many towers). I will see how it handles things when I head out this afternoon.

It needs to be on the external SD card (sd-ext).

Power down, then power on while holding volume up and volume down at the same time. At the menu, use volume down to highlight Recovery and volume up to select it. At the screen with the ! press volume up and down at the same time again to bring up the menu. Then use volume keys to highlight Update from Zip and tap the power button to select. Then you should see your external SD card contents -- select the update file you previously copied there and tap power again. The update should install at this point.
 
I was on .901, rooted, and when I heard about the soak test, I was invited, but didn't respond within 24 hours of receiving the notification, and was not a part of it. Still, I unfroze all of my stock apps.

However, after traveling for research for the last 4 days, I'm home again, and did an update check. Sure enough, I had a 901 --> 902 update waiting, and it pulled down, and then, after making a copy of it on my internal storage, I let it install.

I now have the 902 update on my phone. And root survived the update.

That's what I assumed, but I do not see the download anywhere on my Droid. I just downloaded it again, and did not attempt to install it. I've searched both SD ans SD-ext, and there's no sign of a zip, or even any folder or file that was modified today. Any idea where it gets downloaded to?
 
was running 901, checked for OTA and it updated just fine to 902. no need to mess with more sideloading for same results. data drops are gone, random reboots seems gone overall phone is becoming the beast we were promised. I have one of those phillips bluetooth docks and even the bt connect/pair is a lot faster as the changelog stated. So I'm super pleased with Moto but it's time for some ICS damnit
 
Im on a stock .902, rooting with this method should work fine? I've heard the camera wont work is this true? Im a nervous nancy but ready to root this ol bionic!

Downloads normally go to the Download directory in the Media Area partition (Internal Storage).
