Root [Root] One Click Root for Samsung Admire (SCH-R720) :: Windows/Mac/Linux :: 9/12/2011

OK im using titanium ro remove the metro crap, I hit un-install to remove it, then I restart my phone, now I no longer see it in the phone itself, but when I go to the titanium app I see it in there with a line through it.. what does that mean? is it removed from my phone?

Also how do I lower my system Rom it say: 187mb (21.9 free)
internal: 206mb (87.1 free)
sd card: 4.12 (3.88 free)

Exactly. A line means uninstalled.

Oh, you may notice your phone reboot after removing system apps like keyboards or browser...
Its completely normal

All,

I have two questions:

1. Since I have no WinDUHs box, and this process is using USB download, and Samsung officially does not support Linux (though they support MAC, which is BSD Kernerl Linux), how do I use this current process?

2. If there is no way to USB download to my phone, how do I get this done running strictly from my phone only?

Would like both questions answered so others in my same space can benefit!

Thanks!

And here is the version with Bloatware removal.

I have not tried this from a windows machine, but it worked fine in Ubuntu.
gelige,

Hey I'm on Ubuntu also, but can not get anything to work. SamSung says "No Drivers" how did you get around this?

I saw that there is an Ubuntu for Droid phones. Are you using that?

Go to the market and download superuser and download busybox too. Once you download both, open busybox and follow the steps it tells you to do and after that your phone will be recognized as rooted.

I thought my phone was just not rootable ;/ I tried in linux first and then the windows installer. When all else fails go to the end of the thread and read backwards because that last issues are probably your issues also... sure enough added super user and bam bam root access thanks everyone for your great work and help!

:):):):):):):):):):):)

is there a full list of apps, features, boot animations/sounds that can be removed and how? i've seen a couple lists while reading through this whole thing, but i would like to remove all that are possible. i have my reasons, and i'm sure some can understand. let's just say my master plan for my gf is for her to have this phone on a plan like the 40, ha ha :)

This is my second time rooting this same phone and the first time went smooth. This time, not so much.... This is what I got (with no root)

* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
error: unknown host service

Any help from anyone?

so does this mean no1 knows the issue here?

So I rooted my brother's girlfriends phone yesterday and got rid of some bloatware with root explorer. And she's saying that her phone isn't working and all her apps keep closing on her. I didn't make a backup but I can still go back to a stock rom to fix this right? Or can someone help me out with some suggestions?

New to Samsung Admire Forum(Not used to phone)
Suggest that you try to "fix permissions" using this app:Fix Permissions for Android | AppBrain.com

Or in CWR

What ever you do
DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER you will turn the Admire into a paperweight I would try a hard reset boot the phone into it's stock rom manager and rest back to stock if that does not work and the phone is still with in the first 15 day's of ownership go ahead in install Rom Manager and brick the phone than take it back to MetroPCS and exchange for a new phone. next time you do this download a free copy of Titanium Backup and make a back up of the stuff you removing or better yet freeze the apps your wanting to remove first to make sure your not going to have problems without them
Good Luck

You should be able to now right click on the zip file you downloaded for root...and open (exstract)with 7-zip
Then run the files associated with your CPU operating system to root your phone...

thats the thing i dont know what files to run?? sry dont know too much about computers thanks for the help.

I can not even begin as yet. I can not get the SD card to mount. I do need to run the Android_root.sh from it yes? Actually I did run it from my local drive which I found silly after I did it.

Anyway even with the SD card in the phone and the USB storage "turned on" I can not see the drive in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

As you might be able to see I am using Linux. It is a Mandriva diriv called Unity.

Hopefully a Windows CPU(XP, Windows 7)..when you download the zip file in the OP for Windows(assuming you are on Windows correct:confused:)
Connect your phone to CPU

Run the(adb/Application)
Run the (run/Windows Batch File)

When complete the terminal window will say press any key

Download Superuser app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su&hl=en

reboot and ROOTED:D

Did you figure it out:confused:

This is pretty much worthless. I got 2 new Admire's last night and did things to a T and it still doesn't root. Does ANYONE have an answer as to why everyone seems to be getting the "Error: Could not access the package manager. Is the system running?" error?
This seems to be my problem. I have tried with USB storage on, USB storage off, copying the files to the phone, running from there...running from my pc...I would try this doing a handstand if there were any hope that it would work. This is a brand new phone. There is nothing on it. Why doesn't this work? What am I doing wrong here? Is it possible that they "fixed" the exploit with newer firmware?
I have rooted about 20 phones in my lifetime and never have had this problem.
Any help is greatly appreciated and may help me from throwing these accross the room.
Thanks.

Did it this way yesterday P
http://androidforums.com/admire-all...dows-mac-linux-9-12-2011-a-7.html#post3958093

Did not show root until superuser was installed.

Then I went to the Market and downloaded the paid version of Titanium backup. It installed successfully as well. Titanium Backup shows I have root access (if I am reading it right).

Superuser shows that Titanium Backup has Superuser priviledges. So I assume this means my phone is rooted.

Am I correct in assuming I rooted it successfully?

SOUNDS LIKE A YES!

My next question is this:

What do I do now?? I realize there are lots of benefits to rooting your phone, but my most immediate need is to run a Screenshot app that requires root access. Even after successfully rooting (i think) my phone, when I open the app, it still tells me my phone needs to be rooted. I tried uninstalling the app, and reinstalling it, but that didn't work. Is there somewhere where I have to "give superuser priviledges" to each individual app??? If so, where is it??? Do I need the files on my desktop anymore, or was that just to install the run.bat on my phone.

NO USE FOR THEM ON YOUR PC TYPICALLY YOU WOULD CONNECT YOUR PHONE VIA USB, ENTER DEBUGGING MODE, AND XFER THE FILES OVER TO YOUR /SDCARD FOLDER THEN ACCESS THEM FROM YOUR PHONE USING ROOT EXPLORER AND COPY / INSTALL THEM TO THE PHONE

My next plan of attack will be to remove all of the BS that comes on the phone. I have seen several people ask what is safe to remove, but I have seen no answer. Also, how do I remove it? Is it done on the phone, or on the desktop connected to the phone??? Is there some other program or app that manages everything?

app store 1.5
books 1.3.4
email 2.3.4
google pinyin 1.3.4
im and social 4.0.8
korean keyboard 0.76
m studio 1.00.30
magic smoke wallpapers 2.3.4
mail@metro7.56
metro backup 1.70
metro navigator atlasbook_4.9.1.86
metro411 1.0.7.1
metropcs easy wifi 4.0.136
myextras 3.0.13

I REMOVED THE ABOVE LIST AND PHONE WORKS FINE, I AM USING MINI OMNI AS MY BROWSWER

Last but not least (for now) is the splashscreen and the "Hello, Hello, Hello". I have seen people ask how to remove this, and I have seen some replies that say go to /this file/that file, etc.... Where do I go to edit files? Is it on my phone, or on my desktop??? And what exactly do I edit to change the splashscreen and the "Hello, Hello, Hello"

The Metro PCS sound start up is named "poweron.wav" and is located at /system/etc YOU ALSO ACCESS THIS THROUGH ROOT EXPLORER APP RENAME REMOVE WHATEVER YOU WANT TO THIS .WAV AND YOUR PHONE WILL NO LONGER HAVE THE START UP SOUND HELLO ETC ...

ANYTHING ELSE?

Hi,

I've rooted my admire by using the software provided on the first page. I've installed superuser and root explorer. I've got Root explorer included under aps in Superuser.

I tried to rename poweron.wav to get rid of the annoying hello hello hello but am unable to do so as I get the following message every time I try to do anything with it: "poweron.wav cannot be renamed because the file system is read-only".

Whatever action I try to do such as delete it reflects the same message like for delete: ""poweron.wav cannot be deleted because the file system is read-only".

Ideas?

Thanks!

@ gbiggie

Thank you, that was the solution & I didn't know to do this. Just learning what's possible and hadn't come across that info yet. Don't want to jump in & try anything unless I know it's OK, that's a good way to make a brick.

Cheers!

OK so I got the phones "rooted" and with root explorer, it will allow me to delete the bloatware...but when I reboot the phone or change directories, they return. It appears that the \system\app folder will not allow me to change r/o,r/w permissions anymore; so upon rebooting, the apps never left. It actually lets me delete them, and when I leave the app directory, and return, they never deleted. Any ideas? I have a paid version of Titanium backup and same thing; I delete, it reboots and voilla! they are still there.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Use titanium back up, go to that app, make sure you do not have have a backed up, and hit uninstall.. it will be gone forever no going back!
